NSMBW 0.0.10: spinning coins, smoother frame pacing, clickable menus
Spinning coins, smoother frame pacing, clickable menus, Settings in the + menu.
- Coins spin again (and the other animated tiles animate). The game draws each frame of these animations and copies it into its tile texture. Those copies never reached the texture, so it stayed on its first frame.
- Smoother 60 FPS on Windows. V-Sync is now on by default, so frames reach the display evenly. You can turn it off in the Video tab.
- Frame Rate setting in the Video tab: 60, 120, 180 or 240 FPS. Above 60 it uses frame interpolation, which is experimental.
- Click or tap the game's menus. This covers the pause menu (Continue / Exit Course), the Save / Don't Save windows, the world map's + menu, and the world map's Menu / Select World / View Map / Items buttons. Options the game has greyed out stay unselectable, as with the remote.
- Settings in the world map's + menu, under Quick Save, in the game's button style. The controller can move onto it, and tapping or clicking works too. Back (1) is clickable.
- F11 switches between windowed and fullscreen on Windows.
- Splash screen: shorter credit, plus "Report any bugs you find to my github page!".
Known issue: platforms in some World 5 courses (e.g. the giant Piranha Plant's course on the map) can turn white for moments. It's being investigated.
Includes 0.0.9's World 5 tower slowdown fix and Android start-menu settings.

No game files are included. You need your own New Super Mario Bros. Wii (USA, SMNE01, revision 1), extracted with Dolphin. See Getting the game files.

NSMBW 0.0.9: World 5 slowdown fixed, settings on the start menu
World 5 slowdown fixed, settings on the start menu.
-
Slowdown fixed (World 5's tower and other courses with animated tiles). The game animates some tiles by copying small 32×32 frames into its big tile texture. The renderer created a full-size texture for every one of those small copies, every frame: about 18 large textures a frame in World 5's tower, more at higher resolutions. Copies are now sized to what they write and their textures are reused. The tower went from 52 fps to a locked 60 fps on a Ryzen 5 5600G + RTX 5070, and runs 56–59 fps on a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 phone (REVVL 7 5G).
-
Disappearing (white) platform textures on the S26 Ultra note, this still occurs for me, i'll have to fix this later but its not game breaking or anything haha. This doesn't occur on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, only the 8 Elite Gen 5 from what I can see.
-
Android: no more ⋯ button. Display (aspect ratio, render resolution, FPS counter, graphics compatibility) and Controls are under Settings on the start menu. In the game, the phone's Back gesture offers Start Menu, Leave LAN Game (in a LAN game) and Quit. The in-game gear (save file screen and pause menus) still changes resolution and the FPS counter while you play.
-
A
Config.tomlsaved with a byte order mark (some editors add one) no longer loses every setting.
Includes 0.0.8's saves in Documents\MarioWiiSaveData on Windows, the gear on the pause menus, and Esc for the + menu.

NSMBW 0.0.8: saves kept across updates, pause-menu settings, Esc for +
Saves that survive updates, a settings gear on the pause menus, and Esc for the + menu.
- Windows: everything is kept in
Documents\MarioWiiSaveData. That folder holds your settings (including where your game files are), saves and caches. Extract a new version anywhere and it carries on where the last one left off: no folder prompt, same saves.- The first start of 0.0.8 takes over your existing data. It looks in an older version's
UserDatafolder extracted next to it (for exampleNSMBW-0.0.7-windows-x64besideNSMBW-0.0.8-windows-x64) and picks the most recently used one.
- The first start of 0.0.8 takes over your existing data. It looks in an older version's
- Settings gear on the pause menus. While the world map's + menu or a level's pause menu is open, a gear sits at the top right. Tap it (or click it on Windows) for the same settings window as on the save file screen. Closing the window brings you back to the menu.
- On Android, the on-screen remote stays up for the menu itself. Taps anywhere off its buttons reach the game.
- Esc opens the + menu. On Windows, Esc now acts as + (alongside Enter), so it brings up the world map's menu or pauses a level. Esc also closes the settings window. It no longer opens the quit prompt; close the window to quit. Rebind it in Keybinds if you like.
- Android: saves, settings and the imported game were already kept across updates. That's unchanged.
Includes 0.0.7's real ultrawide, settings gear and rebindable keys.

NSMBW 0.0.7: real ultrawide, settings gear, rebindable keys
Real ultrawide, a settings gear, and rebindable keys.
- Ultrawide done properly. On screens wider than 16:9 (ultrawide monitors, and most phones) Fill no longer stretches the picture. Levels, the title screen, the opening cutscene, the world map and the menus draw wider, so you see more to the sides with nothing squashed or stretched. The level camera itself is wider, so enemies and objects appear at the real edges of your screen. LAN games still play in 16:9, so every device sees the same thing.
- Settings gear next to the Couch / LAN button on Select a File:
- Video tab: Match Screen Resolution renders at your screen's own resolution and fills it. While it's on, the multiplier is greyed out. Otherwise each multiplier comes in two forms on a wide screen: "1x (480p)" keeps 16:9 with black bars, and "1x Ultrawide" fills the screen. Show FPS Counter is off by default.
- Keybinds tab: all 12 keyboard controls (directions, 2, 1, A, Shake, Tilt Left/Right, +, −). Pick one and press the new key; Esc cancels. Reset Defaults puts them back. They're saved to
Config.toml.
- Android: changes made in the gear (resolution, ultrawide, FPS counter) are kept by the app, and its own ⋯ > Display menu now offers Match screen and 1.5x.
Includes 0.0.6's tappable menus, 0.0.5's Couch / LAN button and app icon, and 0.0.4's shader cache fixes.

NSMBW 0.0.6: tap the menus
Tap the menus. On Android, tap the game's own menus instead of using the on-screen remote, which now hides itself while they are up. On Windows, click them with the mouse.
- Strap and title screens: tap anywhere.
- Select a File: tap a file, Free-for-All, Coin Battle, Erase or Copy. The game's cursor moves there and picks it, just as if you'd used the remote.
- Select Players: tap 1–4 players, or Back.
- Couch / LAN button and the LAN menus: tap their buttons (Join, Create Room, rooms, Start, Cancel, OK). The LAN window gained a tappable (1) Back.
- The on-screen remote comes back for the world map, levels, and the multiplayer join screens.
Includes 0.0.5's Couch / LAN button and app icon, and 0.0.4's shader cache fixes.

NSMBW 0.0.5: Couch / LAN button, app icon
A Couch / LAN button instead of the popup, and a new app icon.
- No more "LAN or Couch?" popup every time the save file screen opens. A button in the game's own style now sits at the top right of Select a File. It says Couch by default; press Up from any file to reach it, and press it to switch to LAN (Join or Create Room). Backing out of LAN returns it to Couch.
- New app icon (a goose in a Mario cap) on Android, and on Windows for
NSMBW.exe, the window and the taskbar.
Includes 0.0.4's shader cache fixes.

NSMBW 0.0.4: no more shader compiling every launch
Shaders no longer recompile on every launch on Android, and new players get NSMBW's shaders built up front instead of stuttering when an effect first appears.
- Android: the GPU driver's pipeline cache is now saved. It was only ever saved on Windows, so every launch rebuilt every shader in the driver (about 16 s of "Compiling shaders" on a REVVL 7). It is now saved after the first build and whenever you leave the app. On the REVVL 7, launches after the first now take 2.2 s instead of ~16 s.
- NSMBW's own pipeline list ships with the game (1,156 pipelines collected while playing; just pipeline descriptions, no game data). The first launch builds them on the startup screen, so levels don't hitch the first time an effect appears. It replaces WiiCompiled's Mario Kart Wii list, which only built shaders NSMBW never uses.
The first launch after updating builds the list once; every launch after that is quick.

NSMBW 0.0.3: windows fixes
Fix: the Windows version crashed when choosing the game folder on some PCs ("The game stopped because a native crash occurred", exception 0x6BA) as soon as the folder picker opened.
Windows' folder picker raises an internal RPC error on some PCs and handles it itself, but the game's crash reporter caught it first and stopped the game. The crash reporter now only treats real processor faults as crashes right away; everything else is left to Windows first.
Tested from a clean folder with no game files: the setup message, the folder picker, choosing the extracted game, saving it, and booting into the game.

NSMBW 0.0.2: Tailscale multiplayer
Full Tailscale multiplayer: LAN rooms now work over the internet on your Tailscale network on phones as well as PCs, and the start menu points to this repository's new name.
Important
No game files are included. You need your own New Super Mario Bros. Wii (USA, SMNE01, revision 1), extracted with Dolphin: right-click the game > Properties > Filesystem > right-click the disc > Extract Entire Disc. See Getting the game files. The downloads contain the game's code translated to native code (the way KartPad's do), but no levels, music, graphics or sounds.
What's new
- Phones find rooms over Tailscale. Hosts announce their room to every known and Tailscale device, and phones listen for it while the room list is open, so a PC's or phone's room shows up without typing anything.
- Devices share who they know. Every room answer and search passes on the Tailscale devices the sender has met, so all game devices on a tailnet learn each other through any one of them.
- Tailscale & LAN Devices (Android start menu and ⋯ menu) and F10 > LAN Play (Windows): see your own Tailscale and Wi-Fi addresses, and add another device by its Tailscale name or address.
- The PC also finds the Tailscale CLI when it isn't in the default install folder.
- Tested between the Windows PC and the REVVL 7 over Tailscale only (no shared Wi-Fi), in both directions, into a running session.
Updating keeps your saves and imported game: install the APK over 0.0.1, or extract the Windows zip over the old folder (keep UserData).
