Created June 2025 – Based on learnings from WCEU 2024 & WordCamp Asia

This guide helps you jump right into contributing to the WordCamp Europe 2026 marketing campaign. Whether you’re a first-timer or returning contributor, here’s everything you need to get started, choose a role, and make your mark.

Quick Setup (Optional but Recommended)

Want the full contributor experience? Take a few minutes to set up the basics:

Short on time? You can skip this and still contribute today! Just let your table lead know and dive in — we'll help as you go.

What We’re Working On

We're launching the WCEU 2026 Marketing Campaign — and we need creative minds like yours. Today’s focus: laying the groundwork to attract, engage, and grow our community leading up to WordCamp Europe.

This includes:

  • Promoting retention of past WCEU attendees
  • Attracting new audiences — especially younger and older WordPress users
  • Showcasing speaker and attendee diversity through storytelling

Ways to Contribute Today

Pick your squad, or try more than one!

1. Email Marketing Squad

Help us plan, write, or refine email campaigns for:

  • Past attendees (how do we bring them back?)
  • New audiences (younger, older, more diverse)
  • First announcements (dates, tickets, CFP, etc.)

Good fit for: copywriters, CRM/email marketers, storytellers

2. Social Squad

Brainstorm or draft social posts for WCEU channels. Focus areas:

  • Speaker and attendee spotlights
  • Fun countdowns or behind-the-scenes
  • Community moments from past WCEUs

Good fit for: social strategists, meme creators, short-form writers, visual thinkers

3. Share your files

Put your assets in this folder (just make sure it's publicly accessible): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BhMydE8TS33CrlXyJUkPm5zyTIfWV6Bz

How Today Will Work

  1. Choose a Squad — Email or Social (or both!)
  2. Get Briefed — Squad leads will provide a short kickoff
  3. Break into Groups — We’ll form teams by audience segment (e.g. “younger audience,” “returnees,” “speaker diversity”)
  4. Start Creating — You’ll brainstorm, write, and shape early ideas
  5. Floaters & Support — Campaign leads will bounce between groups to review, guide, and add ✨spice✨

We’ll wrap up with a quick share-out so everyone gets a peek at the ideas.

Recognition & Follow-up

  • Want a Contributor Badge? Drop your WordPress.org username in the Slack thread we’ll start today so we can log your contributions and award badges!

  • Didn’t count participants last time... So please check in on Slack, even if you’re already contributing.

Not Sure Where to Start?

  • Ask your group lead or any Campaign Floater (you’ll know us by our “Spice Squad” badges)
  • Or head to the Training Team table if you want a full walkthrough of Slack, GitHub, etc.
