Limitations and FAQ

Does PArc read or write .arc?

No. Only .parc. For .arc (and .zip/.7z/.rar) use FreeArc-ex. PArc has no GUI either.

Can I create self-extractors?

Not in 0.0.1. -sfx and the parcsfx module were removed. Existing SFX archives can still be listed, tested and extracted; updating one preserves the stub in front of it.

FreeArc compatibility

The .parc container keeps FreeArc's structure and methods, but PArc is not an .arc replacement. FreeArc external codecs (precomp, ECM, JPG, PPMonstr, Durilca, CCM, etc.) are not included.

SREP

  • Decodes v1–v4 and writes v3.
  • The encoder does not interpret every method option (-m0o, -m3f, …); parsing is greedy with lazy matching and 4 hash candidates.
  • Reading and writing SREP work; the ratio may be worse than the original SREP.

Recovery

Reed–Solomon only (parc-rs1). The old .arc rotating XOR was removed. -rr0% verifies CRCs but does not repair.

Platforms

  • Linux x64.
  • Windows 7+ x86/x64.
  • There is no Linux i386 or ARM build in 0.0.1.

Where do I report a bug?
