FRIZZ v1.5.0-beta.5
The fifth beta of FRIZZ 1.5: latch an effect with SHIFT in either order, a finalizer Width that widens a mono source, a leaner Level module, and the play page showing your loops. Built from main at 42c3840 (tag v1.5.0-beta.5) with GCC 10.3. FRIZZ.bin md5 0b0dd56c459035d1dbabf2f17ae9404f.
It goes beside v1.0.1, not instead of it. With the multi-firmware launcher (1.6 colours the keys), put it on its own key and keep the release on yours. Report what you find in #249 or in an issue, naming v1.5.0-beta.5.
Changed since beta.4, in your hands:
- SHIFT and an FX key latch in either order (#456): hold the key and press SHIFT, as before, or hold SHIFT and tap the key; the same again unlatches. A plain press no longer unlatches: it plays the effect and puts it on the knobs, and the latch stays. SHIFT + key 7 twice switches the phaser and the frequency shifter and leaves the latch as it was. SHIFT, then a key, no longer picks an effect silently (MIDI's CC 23 still does). Key 15 works as before.
- The finalizer's Width widens a mono source (#455): right of the centre each band now also gets Space, a slightly different copy of the band in the side, so a mono synth or voice gets wide. Summed to mono nothing changes; left and right stay level. At the centre and to the left everything is as before.
- The finalizer's Drive and Type are gone again (#472): their three types never sounded apart enough to keep. The Level module is Input on knob 1 and Loud on knob 4; knobs 2 and 3 do nothing and stay dark. A card from an earlier beta loads with the drive off and every other finalizer knob as it was.
- MIDI out passes a DAW's Song Position on (#443): move the playhead while stopped and press play, and the gear behind FRIZZ goes on where the DAW does (doubled or halved with the clock factor).
- SHIFT + key 15 steps the finalizer's module once it's selected (#435), in the same SHIFT hold or a new one.
- The scene keys show the slots by colour (#475): an empty slot dimly white, so you see where a save can go; a saved one dimly violet, the blank scene too; the one recalled or saved last bright violet, pulsing once you've changed something. Holding key 15, the finalizer's presets show the same way.
- The play page's lower C# and D# show your loops (#434): dim in the colour of the first bank with a loop (C#) or a cubbi (D#), dark for none; a loop waiting to start blinks there (#444).
Fixed since beta.4:
- A slight nudge of a knob no longer jumps far (#447): a detent's contact bounce was counted as fast turns.
- The finalizer's Type and the Comp characters take effect as you turn them (#449).
- The freezer plays on when its length is turned past what it recorded, a frozen delay keeps its highs and its damping fades out with the freeze, and the reverb's pre-delay turns without a chirp (#444 D, audit).
- Dim keys stay apart at a low LED brightness (#444 B), and the global CC 22 starts afresh on each effect (#444 C).
- MIDI: a CC 23 right after a hand selection is no longer lost, MIDI out at x2 passes a bunch of ticks whole, the mode switch's flash lands on the right key (audit).
- A rare lost or garbled byte on TRS out when the TRS input restarted after an error (#442; only in the betas).
- A latch no longer flips back when a key bounces as it's let go with SHIFT held (#464).
- A bug report now carries the scenes and settings FRIZZ read back after lending the card to a computer, so a problem after a lend plays back too (#461).
Tested by machine for this build: the CPU bench of this build's own source (#481: every effect 83.2 % at worst / 73.7 % on average, a loop with every effect 81.8 / 73.5, with every finalizer module working 86.6 / 79.8; only page 2's known extreme goes over), and the scenarios played on the CHOMPI in each PR. The details are in each PR; the release test is #249. The same FRIZZ.bin byte for byte comes out of GitHub's CI for this tag.
What only you can judge is listed in #249: the new latch in your hands (both orders, a latched phaser's mode switch, quick double taps), the Space by ear (a mono source, a kick with the low band right, mono summed), the Level module without its drive, a DAW's Song Position through to your gear, the knobs' feel, the dim keys at 25 % (white, violet and bright violet on the scene keys), and everything from the betas before.
