VLC PS5 v0.2

What's new

  • DVDs from your network: DVD images (.iso or .img) on a PC or NAS share now play as real DVDs, with their menus, chapters, length and seeking, just like from a USB drive
  • Disc menus you can use right away: the D-pad and ✕ press the menu's buttons as soon as it shows. The touchpad brings up the player controls over a menu, and in the film ✕ pauses as usual
  • Real chapters on DVDs: the film's own chapters, with marks on the progress bar and L1 / R1 to jump between them
  • IPTV and radio channel lists: open any M3U or PLS list (from a share, a USB drive, the Playlists tab or a link you type) and pick a channel from it, with the names from the list, in the list's own order
  • Channel lists in Playlists: lists with links open as a channel list and show how many channels they have
  • Smarter HTTPS: when a server doesn't work with the console's own secure connection, VLC's takes over for that link only

Fixed

  • A crash when a stream's server redirected it to another address
  • DVD and Blu-ray menus didn't react to the D-pad for ISOs opened from a share
  • DVD images from a share played as one long video with no length or seeking
  • M3U files on a share were hidden, and opening one showed nothing
  • Playlists with links looked empty and counted 0

Notes

  • Blu-ray menus made with Java (BD-J), used by most commercial Blu-rays, can't be shown on the PS5: those discs skip the menu and play the movie. Simpler HDMV menus work.
  • Encrypted (CSS) DVD images aren't supported; unprotected ones and most ripped ISOs are.
  • DVDs don't store chapter names, so their chapters are called Chapter 1, Chapter 2...; Blu-rays and videos with named chapters show their names.
  • .img files that aren't DVD images (hard disk or game images) can't be played.
  • Online .m3u8 links play directly: they're live streams, not channel lists.

Install

  1. Extract PPSA85300.zip and copy the PPSA85300 folder to /data/homebrew/.
  2. Run kstuff and ShadowMountPlus.
  3. Start VLC from the home screen.
  4. Add your media on a USB drive, or /data/vlc/, also from your phone.

Optional full access. With etaHEN, OnionHEN or the Helper, VLC can lift its sandbox. This gives it all of /data and USB drives plugged in while it runs. download helper.elf
