License

ENPAF is released under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0.

In short:

  • Free for noncommercial use.
  • 💼 Commercial use requires a paid license from the maintainer.

This is a source-available license, not an OSI open-source license.

What's free (noncommercial)

Any noncommercial purpose is permitted, including:

  • Personal use — research, experimentation, study, hobby/amateur projects, private entertainment, and testing for the benefit of public knowledge, with no anticipated commercial application.
  • Noncommercial organizations — charities, educational institutions, public research organizations, public-safety/health/environmental organizations, and government institutions (regardless of how they're funded).

You may use, modify, and distribute the software for these purposes, provided you pass along the license terms and any Required Notice: lines.

What needs a commercial license

Using ENPAF for or within a commercial product, service, or operation — i.e. anything outside the noncommercial purposes above — requires a separate commercial license. Contact the maintainer to obtain one.

Obligations

  • Notices — anyone who receives a copy from you must also get a copy of the license terms (or the URL) and any Required Notice: lines provided with the software.
  • No sublicensing/transfer — the terms don't let you sublicense or transfer your licenses to others.
  • As-is — the software is provided without warranty; the licensor isn't liable for damages, as far as the law allows.

Why not MIT?

ENPAF aims to stay free for the community — students, researchers, hobbyists, and nonprofits — while asking companies that build commercial products on top of it to support its development through a commercial license. PolyForm Noncommercial is a clear, well-drafted, widely recognized license for exactly this model.
