When is next release(after 0.8.2) for brew?

Hi there! I love this project but I'm just itching for the next release on brew. version 0.2.8 is still really buggy for me and looking through the issues list, it seems like a lot of the issues that have made me stop using Rift have been fixed on the main branch. So I'm itching to get back to using rift full-time. I'm not a developer so I don't know to compile from source.

however in the meantime it is not too hard to build rift from source.

installing rust: https://rust-lang.org/tools/install/

and then it is literally just cargo build --release rift rift-cli

then you can run it with rift.

it should not be too long before a release though, i just want to iron a few final things out before i publish it. thanks for the interest in rift aswell!

@brianwk would you be willing to update to the latest main just to ensure that no bugs have arisen. it has a bunch of fixes and cleanups i just want to make sure it works fine before i cut a release

Hi @acsandmann , and I was just about to comment that I've only seen two bugs, and you're already releasing a new version, hehehe:

1. I have two browser windows open, one on my main external monitor and the other on my Mac's monitor. When I maximize a video in the window on the Mac's monitor, the window on the monitor acts in tiling mode as if the other window were right next to it. The video illustrates this better.

2. The other error I saw today is that at some point, the windows I was using lost their floating property, and I had to restart Rift. I only remember that I was working with four workspaces, minimizing applications, switching between workspaces, and then it suddenly happened. I also remember dragging a KeePass floating window to the other monitor, and that's when the floating property was lost.

also lol fun tidbit, i created rift just because i couldnt watch football games in native fullscreen with aerospace since it doesnt really work without displays have separate spaces being off.

My tests were based on code from 3 days ago; I just updated and the same thing is happening. I'm having trouble running Rift in service mode; I had to try running the Rift command directly. I don't see anything in the logs explaining why I can't run it in service mode. I uninstalled everything, reinstalled via homebrew, and have to quit. When I return, I continue testing.

you have to uninstall and then reinstall the service because macos suck.

Edit: in general has 0.3.0 fixed most/all/any of the bugs that exist? just want to gauge where rift is in terms of how users feel about it

I see this new message on brew install. Noted!!!!:

Rift requires Accessibility permissions to control windows.
Grant permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.

To copy the example configuration:
mkdir -p ~/.config/rift && cp /opt/homebrew/opt/rift/share/rift/rift.default.toml ~/.config/rift/config.toml

To start acsandmann/tap/rift now and restart at login:
brew services start acsandmann/tap/rift
Or, if you don't want/need a background service you can just run:
LANG="en_US.UTF-8" /opt/homebrew/opt/rift/bin/rift
