Northstar v1.3.1
Hotfix release. Fixes a crash some riders hit in 1.3.0.
🐞 Fixed
- Crash when switching between pages — the in-app map (MapLibre) could native-crash (SIGSEGV)
during fast navigation, because its annotation layers were torn down after the map was already
freed. Hit several phone brands. Please update from 1.3.0.
Everything else is unchanged from 1.3.0 — full feature list below for anyone coming from 1.2.2.
What 1.3.x adds since 1.2.2
- 🎵 Music on the dash — now-playing (title/artist) shows on the dash; press IN, then left/right
to skip tracks. - 📞 Calls on the dash — caller name appears on the map; UP answers, DOWN rejects/ends.
- 🗺️ Stream matched to the official RE app — ~4 fps / ~200 kbps so the dash decoder never
stutters; drops to 2 fps when parked to save power. - 🔍 Direct map zoom — joystick left/right zooms the map while projecting.
- 📶 Auto-recovers a dropped dash — if the Tripper's WiFi hangs, Northstar rejoins on its own once
you power-cycle, and vibrates + speaks "Dash disconnected" so you're never riding blind. - 🔊 Nav voice through your Bluetooth helmet.
- 📝 In-app guidance on every screen — including how to start a route (share from Google Maps).
- 📶 Uniform screen-off streaming across phone brands, smoother map on weak GPS, crash/diagnostics
reporting, and assorted fixes.
Setup for the new bits
- Music + calls: Settings → Media & calls on dash → enable notification access.
- Answer from joystick: Settings → Answer calls from joystick → allow.
Install
Sideload the APK (allow "install unknown apps"). Installs in place over any existing Northstar, keeps
your data. Min Android 10, arm64.
Heads-up: the Tripper's own WiFi access point can occasionally hang on long rides (a dash-side
firmware quirk) — a quick bike power-cycle brings it back and Northstar reconnects automatically.
