The next release will most likely be a major version bump with a few breaking changes to RedisConfig. The plan is to include:

• Rustls support (@birkmose)
• The ability to send reads to replicas in a cluster (@tsukit)
• Buffered transactions
• Bringing back the mocking layer
• Support for hostname discovery in Redis 7 (via cluster-announce-hostname)
• The ability to customize DNS lookup logic (maybe)
• Serde support for RedisValue (maybe)

First off my apologies taking so long to get this out.

6.0.0-beta.1 is on main now with a few changes to the list above. The connection management issues in 5.x were pretty invasive to fix and refactor and took longer than I expected. Instead of delaying this a few more weeks to finish the replica and mocking layer features I'm going to focus on getting a more reliable version on crates.io ASAP. I'll hopefully get to the replica and mocking features sometime in December.

The code should be much more approachable now, but I still need to rewrite the CONTRIBUTING docs around the new implementation.
