20.06.2026 - What AIR SDK should i go for

We are trying to release a major update on our app, and we are wondering with everything that is going on in the AIR-SDK world, what would be the best version to go with?

Personally speaking, I would start with the very latest and go from there. It's up to date with all of Google's requirements, etc, etc. Give it a shot and if it works the first time, you're in a good place.

True, sometimes we have known issues that mean I would hold back on suggesting updates. The only thing I would say currently is if you're targeting iOS, there are two issues:

• multiple parallel downloads can sometimes result in deadlock. We thought we'd fixed it in the 51.3.3.1 release but it looks like there are other things happening to cause the same problem...
• no support for iOS 27 ... working on this but it involves quite a shift in the application start-up and lifecycle handling plus an update to the minimum iOS level - this would be a "51.4" version which, if I'm realistic, is likely to be some time in August.

So if your upgrading is a major effort, it might be worth waiting until the end of August, because otherwise when people start installing iOS 27 they are going to find your apps don't work..

@ajwfrost Just to confirm, are you saying that if end users have iOS 27 installed on their devices and try to use our existing AIR apps, they would no longer work? Or do you mean if us developers have the iOS 27 SDK installed and try to package with it, the app won't launch? (If this is about the UISceneDelegate requirements, I had thought it was the latter and was based on the SDK that was used when building the app, it seems like Apple's responses here mention the same: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/832787)

Oh yes! Thanks @FliplineStudios for that, I hadn't spotted the fact it was based on the SDK. So we have a little longer, and no immediate issues when iOS comes out .. but as soon as developers update their own SDKs, on a Mac, then the AIR IPAs will (by default) be generated as if using the latest version. Thankfully this can be overwritten but it would be nice if we could get the support working as swiftly as possible to avoid any confusions or extra efforts!
