Thanks, and yes, go ahead. This repo is MIT (LICENCE.txt), so you are free to port it, just keep the copyright notice in your distribution.

One heads up on the hard part: all of the WhatsApp protocol work here comes from whatsmeow (src/go.mod:25), which is Go only. Everything in this repo on top of it is just the HTTP/MCP layer, event handling and storage, so a Rust version will need its own protocol client or an FFI bridge. That is where most of your time will go, not in the API surface.

If you want to stay compatible so people can swap implementations, these are the two contracts worth matching:

• docs/openapi.yaml for the REST API
• docs/webhook-payload.md for the webhook payload shape
