FH2-Input v4.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@alezwork alezwork released this 02 Nov 11:51

The DualSense, the keyboard and the mouse for Forza Horizon 2 on Azimuth 0.9.10 and 1.0.x, with or without Forza Horizon 2 Extra Options.

Button icons

Install

Unpack FH2-Input-4.2.0.zip, close Azimuth and run Install.cmd: it finds Azimuth (or asks for the folder with azimuth.exe) and puts d3d12.dll next to it. Uninstall.cmd takes it away again. Turn off Steam's PlayStation controller support for Azimuth and close DS4Windows.

New in 4.2.0: the mouse in the menus

The game has no pointer of its own, so the mouse works through the gamepad's controls. Whenever the car is not being driven (menus, paused, loading, the garage, the map):

  • Movement moves the left stick by its speed: the map's cursor, the lists ([Mouse] MenuSensitivity).
  • The wheel presses the D-pad up/down, one press per notch, or LB/RB for the tabs ([Mouse] Wheel=DPad|Shoulders|Off).
  • Left click is A (confirm), right click is B (back) ([Mouse] Clicks).

Driving, the mouse still looks around, and the wheel and the buttons do nothing by default (A is the handbrake and Extra Options has the D-pad there). [Mouse] Menus=Look keeps mouse look in the menus too; Menus=Off turns the mouse off there.

Upgrading: just run Install.cmd. An existing DualSense.ini keeps working; the new settings take their defaults until you add them.

FH2-Input v4.1.0

@alezwork alezwork released this 02 Nov 11:46

The DualSense, the keyboard and now the mouse for Forza Horizon 2 on Azimuth 0.9.10 and 1.0.x, with or without Forza Horizon 2 Extra Options. The project is now called FH2-Input (formerly FH2-DualSense).

Button icons

Install

Unpack FH2-Input-4.1.0.zip, close Azimuth and run Install.cmd: it finds Azimuth (or asks for the folder with azimuth.exe) and puts d3d12.dll next to it. Uninstall.cmd takes it away again. Turn off Steam's PlayStation controller support for Azimuth and close DS4Windows.

New in 4.1.0

  • Mouse look: the mouse moves the right stick, on top of the keys and the DualSense. The view goes where you move the mouse, like the game's look on the stick, and comes back to the front when the mouse is still; or [Mouse] Look=Speed for a free camera. Sensitivity, the way back and inverted Y in [Mouse] in DualSense.ini.
  • Raw input, so the look keeps going at the screen's edge; the cursor stays in the game's window while the game is in front (KeepCursorInWindow).
  • The mouse counts once the keyboard has joined the game (the first key press). Its buttons can be bound like keys (Mouse1..Mouse5 in [Keys]).
  • The release is now FH2-Input-<version>.zip; the files next to azimuth.exe keep their names (d3d12.dll, DualSense\).

Upgrading from 4.0, 3.0 or 2.x: just run Install.cmd. An existing DualSense.ini keeps working; the mouse is on with the defaults until you add a [Mouse] section.

FH2-DualSense v4.0.0

@alezwork alezwork released this 02 Nov 01:58

The DualSense and the keyboard for Forza Horizon 2 on Azimuth 0.9.10 and 1.0.x, with or without Forza Horizon 2 Extra Options.

Button icons

Install

Unpack FH2-DualSense-4.0.0.zip, close Azimuth and run Install.cmd: it finds Azimuth (or asks for the folder with azimuth.exe) and puts d3d12.dll next to it. Uninstall.cmd takes it away again. Turn off Steam's PlayStation controller support for Azimuth and close DS4Windows.

New in 4.0.0

  • Azimuth 1.0.x supported (the DualSense joins the game's gamepads again).
  • Extra Options is optional. With it, the mod hooks the game only after its patches are in, as before.
  • The keyboard is back as a gamepad, merged with the DualSense: smooth steering and pedals (W/S/A/D), every button on keys of your choice ([Keys] in DualSense.ini).
  • Button icons follow the device in use, as you play: PlayStation symbols for the DualSense, key caps for the keyboard, the game's own for an Xbox controller -- including the icons already on screen. Settings > Controls > Automatic button icons, or [Icons] Mode.
  • Nothing is written into the game's folder: the mod's files are in DualSense\cache\ next to azimuth.exe. The files 3.0 put into Mount\mediaoverride\ are removed at the first start.
  • The controller's state on the settings page is in the game's language.
  • Forza Horizon 3 on the same Azimuth is left alone (there the mod is only a gamepad).
  • Another mod's d3d12.dll (ReShade and the like) keeps working: the installer keeps it as d3d12_next.dll.

Upgrading from 3.0 or 2.x: just run Install.cmd.

FH2-DualSense v3.0.0

@alezwork alezwork released this 23 Oct 08:59

On top of Extra Options. The mod is still one d3d12.dll next to azimuth.exe, but it now works on top of Forza Horizon 2 Extra Options and does nothing without it. Azimuth's own files, azimuth-tls.dll among them, are not touched.

Requirements: Forza Horizon 2 (1.0.0.64) on Azimuth 0.9.10, and Extra Options 0.2.98: its winmm.dll and FH2_ExtraOptions.ini next to azimuth.exe, with [Global] Enabled=1 and [Files] EnableMediaOverrides=1 (its defaults).

Install: put d3d12.dll next to azimuth.exe, beside Extra Options' winmm.dll. Upgrading from 2.2: replace d3d12.dll; the DualSense\cache\ folder can go. From 2.0/2.1: delete fh2-mods\DualSense.dll.

Changed

  • The game is hooked only after Extra Options is done: the mod waits until Extra Options' Fh2TweaksStatus() says OK (its own patches in). If Extra Options refuses or is switched off, the mod leaves the game alone and the DualSense works as a plain gamepad.
  • Menu and icons through Extra Options' mediaoverride: the settings page (Settings > Controls), its texts in every language and the PlayStation icons are written into the game's Mount\mediaoverride\ folder as Azimuth starts, and Extra Options gives them to the game. The mod no longer makes copies of the game's archives or hooks anything of Azimuth.
  • Other mods' files are left alone: the mod lists its files in DualSense\mediaoverride.txt and never overwrites or deletes a file that is not its own.
  • [DualSense] Enabled=0 turns the whole mod off and takes its files out of mediaoverride.
  • The language of the controller's state on the settings page comes from Azimuth's launcher language (else Windows').

Uninstall: set [DualSense] Enabled=0 in DualSense\DualSense.ini, start Azimuth once, then delete d3d12.dll and the DualSense\ folder.

@alezwork alezwork released this 21 Oct 01:47

Standalone. The mod is now a single d3d12.dll next to azimuth.exe. It needs no other mods: no FH2 Mod Platform, no Extra Options (both still work alongside it).

Install: put d3d12.dll next to azimuth.exe. Upgrading from 2.0/2.1: delete fh2-mods\DualSense.dll.

New

  • Settings in the game's own menu: Settings > Controls, below the game's rows, in every language the game has. The panel beside them shows the controller's connection, battery and firmware, and three switches test the vibration, the triggers and the lights.
  • Adaptive triggers: ABS pulses on L2 at the grip limit, or a hard pedal when a wheel locks without ABS; the road's texture in the trigger you press; landings jolt.
  • HD haptics: the road under each side of the car (gravel, dirt, grass, sand, cobbles, kerbs), sharper crashes and gear changes, landings, a soft limiter instead of clipping.
  • Menu and event haptics: PS5-like ticks and clicks in the menus, the prize drum ticking by, skills, combos, checkpoints, countdowns, level-ups.
  • Skill combo on the player LEDs.
  • PlayStation button icons no longer need Extra Options.

FH2-DualSense v1.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@alezwork alezwork released this 15 Oct 02:07

Azimuth 0.9.9 and ExtraOptions. The mod and its loader work on Azimuth 0.9.9 (0.9.5–0.9.7 still too), together with ExtraOptions.

Files

File Where it goes
DualSense.dll <Azimuth>\mods\ the whole mod: DualSense, Xbox impulse triggers, keyboard, button icons
azimuth-tls.dll <Azimuth>\data\bin\ the mod loader 1.1: rename the azimuth-tls.dll that is there (Azimuth's own or ExtraOptions') to azimuth-tls.dll.original first

Upgrading from 1.1: replace DualSense.dll and put the new azimuth-tls.dll in data\bin\ (keep your azimuth-tls.dll.original).

New

  • Mod loader 1.1: it loads azimuth-tls.dll.original first, then mods\*.dll. With ExtraOptions installed, rename its azimuth-tls.dll to azimuth-tls.dll.original: it keeps working as before (its ini, settings and Gamerpic.png stay next to it), and the mods go over it. After an ExtraOptions update, its new DLL goes in as azimuth-tls.dll.original again.
  • Azimuth 0.9.9: the game's folder is read from the new azimuth.ini (the title's section); the old format still works.
  • Trigger Feedback in every language: the switch in the controller settings is named from the game's own string tables, in the language the game runs in (cz and HU: English, as the game's own text there).
  • ExtraOptions' Autodrive: D-pad Down starts it, and so do the DualSense's D-pad, a downward swipe on its touchpad and the keyboard's Down key. Steering, throttle or braking takes control back, and with gyro steering on so does tilting: switch the gyro off (mic button) to let it drive.

Controller feedback, triggers, keyboard and icons are the same as in 1.1. See the README.

FH2-DualSense v1.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@alezwork alezwork released this 14 Oct 07:58

Works together with other mods that change the same game files — notably FH2-LivingCockpit (a living cockpit camera, the feel of speed, a motion blur switch).

Files

File Where it goes
DualSense.dll <Azimuth>\mods\ the whole mod: DualSense, Xbox impulse triggers, keyboard, button icons
azimuth-tls.dll <Azimuth>\data\bin\ the mod loader (unchanged): rename the original to azimuth-tls.dll.original first

Upgrading from 1.1.0: replace DualSense.dll. Your DualSense.ini stays as it is.

Changed

  • The game's archives (UI.zip, the icon archives, zipmanifest.xml) are read through the file hooks of the mods loaded before this one, so their changes stay in what the game gets — the settings switches of both mods show up together, whatever the order the mods load in.
  • The build goes on in its own folder after making tools\xg\kernelx.dll.

Controller feedback, triggers, the keyboard and the icons are the same as in 1.1.0. See the README.

FH2-DualSense v1.1.0

@alezwork alezwork released this 14 Oct 05:00

One DLL for the DualSense, the Xbox controller and the keyboard, and feedback that matches what the car does.

Files

File Where it goes
DualSense.dll <Azimuth>\mods\ the whole mod: DualSense, Xbox impulse triggers, keyboard, button icons
azimuth-tls.dll <Azimuth>\data\bin\ the mod loader (unchanged from 1.0): rename the original to azimuth-tls.dll.original first

Upgrading from 1.0: replace DualSense.dll and delete Keyboard.dll and DualSense.icons from mods\. Your Keyboard.ini settings are taken into DualSense.ini on the first start.

New

  • Xbox impulse triggers: the rumble motors in LT/RT of Xbox One and Series controllers (through Windows.Gaming.Input; XInput cannot reach them), from the car's data: a soft ABS pulse and lock-up buzz on LT, wheel spin and the rev limiter on RT, gear-change and crash kicks. USB or the Xbox Wireless Adapter.
  • One file: the keyboard and the PlayStation icons are inside DualSense.dll now (420 KB instead of three files of 755 KB). A DualSense.icons next to it is still used for your own pictures.
  • Trigger Feedback: the switch in the game's controller settings is called that now and covers both controllers.

Better feedback

  • Crashes are measured: a scrape or a bush is light, a pole or a wall at speed is hard, and every jolt fades instead of buzzing at full. The game's own crash rumble (full strength for any touch of a fence) is set to the same scale: [Vibration] Collisions.
  • Braking and wheel spin are smoothed and ease in from thresholds close to the game's own Xbox One triggers ([Triggers] BrakeSlipStart=120, SpinSlipStart=80).
  • Softer gear-change knocks and lower maximums on both controllers.

See the README.

FH2-DualSense v1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@alezwork alezwork released this 13 Oct 11:57

First release: DualSense support for Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One) on Azimuth 0.9.7.

Files

File Where it goes
DualSense.dll <Azimuth>\mods\ the DualSense mod
DualSense.icons <Azimuth>\mods\ the PlayStation icons (needed for the PlayStation look)
Keyboard.dll <Azimuth>\mods\ optional: the keyboard as a gamepad, keyboard icons
azimuth-tls.dll <Azimuth>\data\bin\ the mod loader: rename the original to azimuth-tls.dll.original first

See the README for the installation and the settings.

What's in it

  • DualSense / DualSense Edge over USB or Bluetooth as the game's Xbox gamepad; touchpad, gyro steering, PS button battery display.
  • HD haptics over USB with the engine, rev limiter and gear changes felt in the hands; rumble emulation over Bluetooth.
  • Adaptive triggers driven by the car: ABS-like chatter and lock-up judder on L2, wheel spin and rev limiter on R2, gear-change knocks, crash jolts, free in menus. On/Off in the game's controller settings.
  • Button icons that switch live between PlayStation, Xbox and keyboard looks; the controls screen marks too.
  • Light bar (Rumble / Revs / Static / Battery) and the player LEDs as a rev counter.

The car-driven triggers and haptics are new: the thresholds are first guesses. mods\DualSense.log prints the car's values every 10 s of driving; reports with a log are welcome.
