Application Settings

This page provides a detailed explanation of the configuration options in Headunit Revived.

General Settings

Auto-Optimization Wizard (v2.0.0+)

Scans your hardware and recommends the best settings for Resolution, DPI, and Codec.

  • Recommendation: Use this tool first if you experience a black screen or if UI elements look too small/large.

Language

Select your preferred UI language. The app supports 12+ languages including English, German, Spanish, Russian, and more.

Night Mode

  • Auto (Time): Sunset/Sunrise calculated based on last known location.
  • Auto (Time + GPS): Waits for a GPS lock for precise time calculation.
  • Light Sensor: Uses the device's physical light sensor.
  • Screen Brightness: Switches based on system brightness level.

Wireless Mode

  • Helper Mode (Recommended): The tablet waits for a trigger from the Wireless Helper app on your phone. Supports Wi-Fi Direct (P2P) for automatic discovery.
  • Auto-Scan: Actively searches for phones running an AA Headunit Server.

Graphic & Video Settings

Screen Mode (v2.0.0+)

  • Normal: Status and navigation bars are always visible.
  • Immersive: Hides all system bars.
  • Hide Status Bar Only: Keeps the navigation bar visible. Use this if your tablet's hardware buttons overlap with the immersive view.

Resolution

Select between 480p, 720p, 1080p, or 1440p.

  • Note: 1440p requires a powerful chipset and H.265 (HEVC) support.

DPI

Controls the size of icons and text.

  • Portrait Fix: Use a value below 200 (e.g., 190) if Google Maps touch controls are unresponsive in vertical mode.

View Mode

  • TextureView (Default): Recommended for most devices. Fixes distortion on Android 4.x.
  • SurfaceView: More efficient, but can have scaling issues on older hardware.
  • GLES20: Best for legacy headunits (Android 5.0 - 8.1) that show a black screen with standard views.

Audio & Input Settings

Audio Volume Offsets (v1.14.0+)

Balance the volume between Media, Voice Assistant, and Navigation prompts using vertical sliders.

Keymap

The built-in Key-Sniffer allows you to map steering wheel buttons or iDrive-style knobs to AA commands.

Debugging

Logging (v2.0.0+)

  • Log Level: Adjust verbosity for troubleshooting.
  • Export Logs: Save a log file to your device to share with developers.
