Use case description

BROWSER_ROOT_HINTS_KEY_MEDIA_ART_SIZE_PIXELS is meant to be used as a hint for recommended size. However, it seems to be just pixels. How can the service implementation have any idea about desired aspect ratio?

The Media3 library doesn't use this constant. It's apps that use that constant. I think this is a constant that we have migrated from the legacy library and that is used by Android Auto. I'm not sure about the exact semantics used by an app like Auto I'm afraid.

Media3 is having this constant here.

From what I understand, these artworks are squared, so the size is the dimension in width and height. To know the exact use of the constant in a media session app or an app accessing a media session, you'd need to talk to these apps to clarify how they interpret the constant and the values passed with it.

Okay, if it was meant be just size dimension of a square album art, It would be good to document it. As is, it is not obvious for service implementations and is a challenge for any clients working with multiple services like in Android auto's media app.

I will send this request to the Auto team, so we can make sure it's correctly and sufficiently documented. My comment was more of a guess based on common sense from reading the JavaDoc and from that I have only seen squared artwork on Auto.

I will update this issue when we have clarified this and updated the documentation. Thank for reporting!
