Remove edits to filesystem from unit tests #3934
Description
In local_test.js and direct_test.js we modify the file system in order to generate the behavior we're looking for. This is bad and we shouldn't do it. jasmine mocks are an alright solution, though if we start to encounter this problem a lot more we might want something more sophisticated.
