Feature request: Ability to run selected SQL portion

One incredibly useful feature of SQL clients is the ability to select some part of the query and execute it, ignoring the rest of the content.

I would prefer not to add a second button because it makes the toolbar a bit heavier. My current idea is to rename the existing button to “Execute” and make it context-aware: if some SQL is selected, it executes the selection, otherwise it executes the current statement. Ctrl+Enter would use the same behavior.

What do you think about that approach?

It would work well, but I think there has to be some kind of visual cue, so the user knows it is the intended behavior

Yes, I agree.

Maybe a small visual hint could help here, like a subtle “Executing selection” message when text is selected, somewhere near the execute button/editor.

I’ll play around with it a bit later and see what feels best in the UI. If you have ideas for a nice UX here, feel free to share them as well.
