v3.0.0 - Codification
v3.0.0 -- Codification Release
Major architectural change: the skill is now split into a slim AI orchestrator (SKILL.md, 203 lines) and a deterministic Python script (session-init.py, 548 lines, 9 subcommands).
What Changed
- SKILL.md: Dropped from 867 lines to 203 lines. Now only handles AI judgment calls (questions, assessment, continuation decisions).
- session-init.py: New. 548 lines, 9 JSON-outputting subcommands for all deterministic file operations (preflight, init, validate, cache-governance, restore-governance, ensure-governance, read-context, harvest, archive).
- install.sh: Now supports
--version v1|v2flag and--revertto switch between versions. - v1/ directory: The original monolithic SKILL.md preserved for users who prefer the v1 approach.
Why Codify
v1 instructed Claude to perform all file operations via natural language interpreted at runtime. This was non-deterministic (different behavior across sessions), context-hungry (867 lines consumed context window), and fragile (prose-described file ops are hard to test). v2 moves all deterministic work into testable Python code.
Install
git clone https://github.com/anombyte93/claude-session-init.git
cd claude-session-init
./install.sh # installs v2 (default)
./install.sh --version v1 # installs v1 (monolithic)
./install.sh --revert # reverts v2 -> v1Featured In
