[PIP-466 / Java client v5] Missing ProducerInterceptor/ConsumerInterceptor — intentional or follow-up work?

Motivation

I read PIP-466: New Java Client API (V5) with Scalable Topic Support and could not find any mention of client-side ProducerInterceptor / ConsumerInterceptor (or an equivalent hook) in the V5 API design.

PIP-466 states that the V5 API is intended as a full replacement for the existing Java client API (not a subset). However, in the current V5 Java client API I do not see any way to register ProducerInterceptor or ConsumerInterceptor on the V5 builders / clients.

Ask: Should PIP-466 (or a follow-up doc) explicitly document whether interceptors are intentionally dropped, replaced by another mechanism, or planned for a later iteration of the V5 API?

The plan is to keep the API surface minimal and incrementally add required features. Some interfaces have been a result of adhoc design and there's an opportunity to cleanup the interfaces in V5 client. If we rush to add all features, it's possible to just copy over the same mistakes.
