Mostly because it was the default when we opened the github mirror, and nobody asked... if no one objects in the PMC we'll turn that on.

That being said, this is an AI generated review obviously, because you're proposing us to fix links in 2007 and 2008 news... okay, well, thank you, I guess...

I was back in the “good old days” when I first got to know Velocity, and while I was there, I noticed a few broken links, so I just clicked through all of them to see if it was worth making any adjustments. Since there are no redirects in the .htaccess file for versions prior to 1.7, I figured it was the project’s intention that the old pages no longer be so prominent, so I went ahead and updated the links directly. ... no AI and nothing really important, either.
