Configuration

All settings are environment variables and all are optional.

Server

Variable Default Purpose
TORQ_DATA_DIR /data Database, attachments and automatic backups
TORQ_LISTEN_ADDR :8080 HTTP listen address
TORQ_BASE_URL (empty) Public URL without trailing slash, e.g. https://torq.example.com. Enables links in notifications and, when https, the Secure cookie flag
TORQ_COOKIE_SECURE auto true/false to force the Secure cookie flag; auto follows TORQ_BASE_URL
TORQ_TRUSTED_PROXIES (empty) Comma-separated CIDRs whose X-Forwarded-For header is trusted, for login throttling behind a reverse proxy
TORQ_MAX_UPLOAD_MB 25 Per-file upload limit for photos and documents (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, PDF)
TORQ_LOG_LEVEL info debug, info, warn or error
TORQ_LOG_FORMAT json json or text
TZ UTC Time zone for reminder dates and digest schedules

Vehicle catalog

Variable Default Purpose
TORQ_CATALOG_ONLINE_UPDATES true Lets administrators refresh the vehicle catalog from KBA and GitHub (Settings → About & data sources → Update now). false keeps torq fully offline. See Vehicle catalog

Spec sheet auto-fill (optional)

Both keys are needed; without them the feature is off. See Spec sheet auto-fill.

Variable Default Purpose
TAVILY_API_KEY (empty) Tavily web search key. The free plan includes 1,000 credits per month; one lookup uses 8
GEMINI_API_KEY (empty) Google Gemini key, free at aistudio.google.com/apikey
GEMINI_MODEL gemini-3.5-flash Gemini model. A lookup stops after 3 minutes, so pick a model that answers quickly. Google retires old models for new keys; set a current one if the dialog says the model is unavailable

Note

When the auto-fill runs, the vehicle's make, model, chassis code, year and engine go to Tavily, and those plus HSN/TSN and the search results go to Google.

Development only

Variable Default Purpose
TORQ_ENABLE_SEED (empty) true allows torq seed-demo, which creates demo data. See Development
