Now before this gets locked down or anything, I would like to make it clear that anybody reading this comment should here this message from an ex arch Linux user - go ahead with the manual installation and don't bother using this funny python package. The code is just basically a prose and it reads like pythonic python without doing anything substantial at all. It takes 10 minutes to use cfdisk and mkfs than use this installer which does not bother to even check exit codes properly and confidently bullshit about running commands successfully. I would like to make not one but 10 PR but I won't out of principle because the cultish nature of this codebase and the hypetrain behind it is an artifact of how arch linux continues to be the windows of linux world. For laughs, go to SysProcess implementation that uses a pty and epoll for implementing that is better implemented by Popen. Why would you need pty in an automation script? No clue. Why would you run interactive commands? No clue. Why not just save the headache and copy paste commands? No clue. Thank you for listening to me. The German counterparts are certainly unhappy and there is a silent majority agreeing with me. |

Reading this comment also is "a laughter challenge for me" 🤣 |

I am not sure 'terms of respect' apply to a software that breaks frequently and unabashedly is proud of it. I am not going to 'respect' or be respectful to a repository that disrespects, python3, Unix philosophy and shell scripting all at once. Rather than ad hominem, please defend the SysWorker class and why it exists in the repo. I can highlight 10 more examples of 'I am an Arch user BTW' meme code. |

If you have any issues, the best way to help is file clear, reproducible issues that can be addressed. From experience that is a skill as well. Having a rant because you feel like it doesn't help anyone. |
Uh oh!

This repo is basically everything wrong with the arch Linux community. I went through the codebase and it was basically a laughter challenge for me. Please shelve this repo because it does good to nobody and messes up important sysadmin stuff like partitioning or messing up bootloader installation or straight up lying about doing the intended actions. The official 'known issues' page is utterly misleading. The codebase reinvents the wheel a hundred times in comical ways with the SysProcess and LPath being primary examples of 'I am an Arch user BTW who knows Python'. There is no proper exception handling, nothing, basic polling is reimplemented for no reason and prompt-toolkit not being used. This is the most baffling piece of github repository I have seen in a while with 8000 stars and 300 maintainers with quality as poor as an AUR malware script. And what kind of reply is 'Go read chatgpt bro' to a user who cannot use archinstall?
