Hister Dating

Alright, hear me out: It may not be dating like "romantic dating" but there is an opportunity here to distill a user's preference into a centroid and then match it against other users' centroids using some sort of distance algorithm. I would classify my own personal centroid as "highly personal" and wouldn't want it published on the internet. I would be OK to publish it to some privately run service that ostensibly cares about my privacy and operates in effect to further humanity by creating interpersonal connections.

Could you share your use-case/requirements there to keep the conversation in one place? I'm still collecting user feedback and trying to figure out what would be the optimal way to approach this feature.

Thanks for all your work. Hister is great and your previous projects are awesome too. I don't know if I have a real use-case for it but the opportunity is there. One way that it could work is:

• A private service is run by Hister
• I log in to the service and get a token
• I configure my instance to generate a centroid or multiple different centroids to measure multiple domains.
• My instance uploads / updates the centroid(s) once a day or week.
• I post a link to my hister on my profile of various different social media profiles, like HN or GH.
• Someone can click on my link and see how similar we are.
• It seems reasonable to ask that person to login and share their link with me so it's more of a friendly way to meet people instead of a stalker tool.

I try to live an ad-free life but this is the kind of space that I would accept seeing ads on. It's kind of weird because if you have these centroid data you are in a really unique place to do a special kind of privacy respecting ad-serving. I never thought I would write those words.

Let's cancel this idea.
