Folding level 2 unfolds level 1

I often want to fold the code, then expand a single class and fold its second level (eg. in Python or C++). But when I do CTRL+K CTRL+2 after CTRL+K CTRL+1, the first level is all expanded again.

PS: Is there also a way to prevent atom from folding the scope(s) that the cursor is currently positioned in?

Can you please provide a code example accompanied by screenshots with expected/desired outcome and the actual outcome. I'm struggling to understand how to replicate your issue as of present.

You start from this

Now when you collapse level 1

Now you collapse level 2 which causes all of level 1 to uncollapse.

Why is this bad? It prevents you from accumulating different folding levels. As I wrote above, I often collapse level 1, open a class and then collapse level 2. What I would like to see then is this:

But what you actually get is bar() also uncollapsed (as in the third picture)

The workflow I am used to from sublime allows me to position my cursor in a block that I would like to work in, fold level 1 and everything gets folded except for the block that my cursor is positioned in (and nothing below that block). Atom on the other hand just folds everything, whether your cursor is in a block or not.

Thanks for the detail. I'm starting to better understand your issue.

I think the functionality of second level folding is good as it is, however, I can understand why you would want to collapse all collapsible nests within an 'area' while maintaining previous fold states. For this, there is the fold selection command but unfortunately that folds all selected code into one complete fold rather than function independent folds.

I think the solution for your problem would be to have a collapse/folds function. Consider the following

Highlight desired code and press collapse shortcut

Resulting state

Hi @andyrichardson I think selecting the code that I want to collapse is an absolute workflow killer. :) I might just look into making an extension that implements my desired folding behaviour.
