RP 2350 HyperSerialPico

Hi,

i got a Pimoroni Plasma 2350 (non W) some time ago, since my RP2040 with external level shifter stopped working.

Is there any way i can make it working with HyperHDR two segment mode? (Hyperk would but sadly this board has no wifi)
I know that HyperSerialPico is not running because RP2040 code is not 1:1 compatible with RP2350, but is there an alternative or a way i can make it run?

HyperSerialPico required a specific FreeRTOS environment configuration to achieve peak USB/CDC communication performance on the RP2040 without interfering with LED rendering. This later necessitated extensive real-world testing; especially on Pico architectures, theory is one thing, but practice is another. The RP2350 requires a newer SDK from Raspberry Pi. It might work out of the box, but it’s hard to guarantee anything because there is a risk that RP2040 stability could be compromised with this newer SDK. HyperK doesn't support multi-segments yet, but it isn't as heavily optimized at the FreeRTOS level, so theoretically, it would be easier to add multi-segment over WiFi support there.

@olevonpopole It would be a shame for such a board with built-in level shifter to be wasted. Better to disconnect DATA too, LEDs could cause leak from DATA if 5v is not connected.

Board is getting detected again. But still timing out with GND only connected.

Disconnect everything and replug the board. I dont have Plasma 2350 but genuine Pico 2 and it works even with the earlier dedicated Pimoroni firmware. Unless it's something with your USB port/hub or Windows driver or this board just behave like this.

I'll try it with a different PC tomorrow. I can also obtain and try an RP2040, but I think that will work without any problem. The old one was running for 3 years. Thank you for taking the time.

Edit: do you use USB2.0 or USB3.0 port?

Or resistors R8 and R9 dont have a pass-through

I'll try to figure it out on Saturday. I was able to quickly measure 34 ohms for R8 and R9, and no capacitor seems to be shorted. In any case, the firmware is working. Many thanks again for all the work you've put into this!

So, today I desoldered the level shifter and bridged the 3.3V GPIO side with the 5V GPIO side. Then I connected an external level shifter to the DAT port, and now it works. It really seems like the level shifter was defective.

It would be great if you could include the firmware in the next official release.

Of course, the HyperSerialPico support for the RP2350 will be merged into the master branch in due time. However, it still needs extensive testing on the RP2040 as well, since a large portion of the code was completely overhauled due to the newer Pico SDK/FreeRTOS. Thank you for your support!

Today I had the opportunity to test the firmware for the Pimoroni Plasma 2040 and the original Pi Pico. And indeed, it seems that the compatibility with the RP2040 is broken in the last Builds. I always get a Windows USB error notification "USB device not recognized"

Then I tested the very first build that fixed the communication issue for the Plasma RP2350. (At that point, I didn't yet know about my broken level shifter on the Plasma 3050, which is why you provided further builds.)

And indeed, both the Plasma 2350 and the original Pi Pico RP2040 worked. However, the Plasma 2040 still had a USB error under Windows.

I believe I've made a breakthrough regarding the RP2040 and RP2350 issues. The latest version is fully stable on my hardware; it passed an hour-long render test and multiple power-cycle sequences (on/off) without failing.

Thank you very much, i did flash the firmware on my Plasma 2350 but unfortunately as i understand my LG G5 doesn't recognize the device ( Webos Linux system as usual.) So i bought a basic 2040 on Amazon which should work.

Both rp2040 and rp2350 are using the same CDC interface. Make sure your board is working properly with PC (serial port).

Assuming that they both should work on webos right? When i try to set HyperHDR on my TV i get this on my PC "LEDDEVICE_Adalight Could not detect HyperSerialEsp8266/HyperSerialESP32 device" so i assumed that webos can't read the usb. Sorry i'm an amateur in this :) . I'll try it on my PC indeed to see if it works.

I would like to take a moment to say a big THANK YOU. Everything is amazing it worked just incredibly well. It really broke my mind for 2-3 days but it was worth the result. Just to inform you the issue was the USB cable and not the pimeroni 2350 device. I can confirm that now it is possible to use 2350 to get your ambilight work and thanks to awawa and her firmware.
