Fixes #346 .
The root cause for this issue is still unknown. Here I implemented a more rigorous test of which conditions are excluded; this test is passed.
Also added a slight improvement to NaN reporting by removing the impact of
shiftbfparameter (which will introduce NaNs in the shift period).
