Make changes to DIFF to increase compatibility with Draft Workflow

It would be really great if we could get the diff module to work nicely with the draft workflow module. 

Here is an AI assisted PR that accomplishes that goal. 

Discussed this with @quicksketch and we think this will require a major release of the module.
