Hey if you like the mix of omarchy and cachyOS you could take a look into this project: https://github.com/lentra0/omarchy-cachyos I found it on this website here awesome marchy |

Hey, is it possible for you to share specifically the final script you used. Or the set of commands. Would be helpful :) |
|
Update: As requested, I've created a script to install Omarchy on a fresh CachyOS installation. The script is available at You can clone the script's repository to your computer to get going. (The script is in the project's bin directory.) Just be sure to read the README.md file before proceeding. Feedback and contributions are welcome. NOTE: Unlike other installation scripts that merge Omarchy with CachyOS, this script does not add software or make changes outside of those that are necessary to resolve conflicts between Omarchy and CachyOS. This includes using yay as the AUR helper, fish as the default interactive shell, and tealdeer as the tldr implementation. The script also prevents Omarchy from changing your boot loader or login environment. (This means you can use Omarchy without LUKS and/or with a login display manager.) However, if you want to match your environment to the Omarchy defaults, you will need to manually run several Omarchy scripts after the installation finishes. The omarchy-on-cachyos installer will remind you of this and provide details on what to do. |

Update: The omarchy-on-cachyos script has been updated to support Omarchy 3.0+ out of the box. Installation has returned to cloning the latest Omarchy github repo for installation on top of CachyOS. As before, installing on top of a minimal CachyOS installation (no desktop) or on top of a Hyprland CachyOS installation (where CachyOS installs Hyprland) have been tested. |

Thanks for this ! Exactly what I needed. CachyOS's kernal improvements work really well for my Zephyrus G14, couldn't make some hardware stuff work on pure Arch + Omarchy. Going to give this a try. |

Quick question... I'm new to hyperland but want to check it out using Omarchy. I have CachyOs installed and running but I have KDE plasma installed. Can I just uninstall KDE and run your install script from TTY prompt ? |
Uh oh!

Hello all!
I got bit by the series of install failures yesterday while trying my first bare-metal go of the Omarchy ISO, so I ended up reading through the source code and doing a line-by-line installation. (I went through install.sh and its dependencies and chose what to execute as is, what to change, and what to skip.) I learned a ton and ended up with what I feel is a better system as a result (for me.)
The result: A very strong (and stable) blend of CachyOS + Omarchy, with all the things I like, and nothing I don't! Below are my thoughts for anyone interested.
Btw: Omarchy is a wonderful initiative. I find it to be a terrific spin on Arch + Hyprland, and it's lovely that it's bringing so many new people into Linux. This is not a complaint post by any means.
Things I like:
Things I changed:
CachyOS instead of Vanilla Arch: I like the CachyOS kernel improvements and many of it's distribution defaults. CachyOS + Omarchy is, for me, the perfect blend.
rEFInd vs Limine as the boot-loader: Loading snapshots from the boot-loader is nice (a feature of Limine,) but I can't pass up the graphical awesomeness of rEFInd.
The single-user / auto-login setup of Omarchy: This is the biggest "opinion" in Omarchy I disagree with. Even for solo users, having a login system is very helpful. For instance, Hyprland doesn't play well with other WMs or DEs installed, but some apps don't always play well with Hyprland (i.e., Steam.) Installing Gnome or KDE on a separate account is a much more elegant solution than trying to "side-load" either into a profile stuffed with Hyprland-focused dotfiles and ENV variables.
No encryption: Having access to my Linux drive is useful from my Windows drive/environment. Btw, if I installed on a laptop and did want encryption, I would setup a unified kernel image, sign-it, and turn on Secure Boot. (A suggestion for Omarchy V3.)
Fish vs. Bash as the shell: I can't give up Fish's syntax highlighting and it's autocomplete, which pulls from man-pages. Fish works fine as my default shell. (I still rely on Bash for scripting, and CachyOS does install Zsh by default too, even if it's not turned on.)
Monitors: For high refresh rate monitors, I find it helps to explicitly call out the refresh rate in the config file. Had I not done this, my screens would be running at 60hz instead of 240hz. (You can also experiment with turning on HDR support by adding Bitdepth, 10 to the config string, but be warned, it will likely break screen sharing.)
Keybindings: Adding Super+Q to close windows/apps is a must. Not sure why it was left out of the default config.
CachyOS + Omarchy notes:
I installed CachyOS with default packages plus the Hyprland packages. Chose Btrfs + Snapper as the file system. Default partition setup (had it wipe the drive.)
I then downloaded Omarchy via cloning the git repo. It is important to install this repo into ~/.local/share/omarchy. The script does not do this explicitly (instead, I think it assumes the ISO installer puts its there by default.)
The only major "breaking change-fix" I had to make to the install script was to remove tldr from the set of Pacman installed packages (in packages.sh.) CachyOS installs Tealdeer by default. This is simply a tldr clone written in rust. Command line syntax between the two packages is the same, which is why they conflict. For those wondering: tldr is a less-verbose alternative to the man pages system.
Note there may be other aspects of the whole script that conflict, but then there were things that I skipped, knowing that CachyOS set them up instead (such as printer support and NVIDIA drivers.) I didn't run into any other major issues.
Omarchy will try to setup a BROWSER environment variable, but it conflicts with the variable already setup by CachyOS. Don't have Omarchy setup a conflicting variable. Instead, change the browser variable setup by CachyOS in ~/.profile. (Omarchy defaults to Chromium, which it uniquely connects into its theme system.)
I may have forgotten one or two minor things, so if others try the same project, please reply with any additional steps you had to take not mentioned above.
Thanks all!
