Flatpaks not recognized in Wofi

Why won't Wofi identify Flatpak or Snap installs in Omarchy?

I can install either and start them from the Alacritty CLI and they will open. However searching them in Wofi comes up blank. I went to the ArchWiki and ended up doing this:

export XDG_DATA_DIRS="$HOME/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/applications:/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications:$XDG_DATA_DIRS"

followed by a reboot of the system. Unfortunately, Wofi still won't recognize Flatpaks or Snaps. I can see here that Flatpaks (and presumaby Snaps) are not preferred in Omarchy but I like them for two reasons:

1. They're often the official package deployment for whatever application you're downloading
2. They have permissions systems

So, what do I do to get Wofi to recognize Flatpak and Snap installs in Omarchy?

Not to be that guy, but -- this is why we moved to Fuzzel in ArchRiot instead of Wofi, along with a myriad of other reasons. Wofi is very kludgy as a launcher.

That said, have you tried:

exec-once = export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$HOME/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share:/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share:/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications:$XDG_DATA_DIRS

Check locations:

ls /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications
ls ~/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/applications

Make sure portal is installed:

sudo pacman -S xdg-desktop-portal xdg-desktop-portal-wlr

Clear the cache:

rm -f ~/.cache/wofi-drun

If none of that works, try a wrapper:
nvim ~/.local/share/applications/flatpak-app.desktop

and...

[Desktop Entry]
Name=AppName
Exec=flatpak run org.appname.AppName
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Icon=org.appname.AppName

Then validate it: desktop-file-validate ~/.local/share/applications/flatpak-app.desktop

And then update the db: update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications

Depending on the version of Omarchy you're running, there's an env file that exports the incomplete XDG_DATA_DIRS directory, causing flatpak apps to not be recognized by wofi. It also caused me to scratch my head a bit because I was exporting it in my .profile file, until I noticed the file in omarchy overwriting it on every startup.
Go into . local/share/omarchy and search for XDG_DATA_DIRS and correct the line to export the full path to the flatpaks.

Omarchy was overriding the env var for no reason, but this was fixed some versions ago. So you might just need to update your system.

You don't need to set XDG_DATA_DIRS at all usually.

I first tried to omarchy-update but ran into an issue with that. My Omarchy may have updated and if so it seems abenz1267 informed that this issue has gone away. I filed a separate bug report on the omarchy-update issue. For fun I tried the other items, I started at the top of the suggestions and tried this one, but it didn't work :(

exec-once = export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$HOME/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share:/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share:/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications:$XDG_DATA_DIRS

then I checked these two locations:

ls /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications
ls ~/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/applications

and there were .desktop files in ls /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications but there were not any .desktop files in ~/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/applications. I don't know if that is good or bad or neither. I then went ahead and installed these, followed by a reboot:

sudo pacman -S xdg-desktop-portal xdg-desktop-portal-wlr

Still, no Flatpaks nor Snaps showing up in Wofi. I then decided to go brute force and just copied all .desktop files from these locations A to locations B:

cp /.local/share/flatpak/exports/share/*.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/
cp /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/*.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/
cp /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/*.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/

and that worked. I guess you could schedule a daily cronjob to do the cp location A -> location B but that seems like a hacky solution. I'll try and reinstall the latest version of Omarchy I guess and hope the issue is resolved.

....why? xdg-desktop-portal-wlr can be yeeted straight away.

@pelephant2, merely updating your local/share/omarchy with git pull should be enough because the latest versions have removed the line that forced the faulty XDG_DATA_DIRS problem, you're over complicating it.
