v1.2.4
HtmlWallpaper v1.2.4
Fixed
- Modules now keep refreshing after sleep / Modern Standby. Overlay modules (Azure Updates, calendar) could silently freeze on stale data after the machine slept overnight and woke — the panels would stay stuck on the previous day until the app was restarted.
Why it happened
Each module refreshed on its own long-period timer. Those timers stop firing across extended Windows Modern Standby and never resume, and the scheduler had no power-resume handling or way to re-arm a dormant timer — so all module data froze until the process restarted.
How it's fixed
The per-module timers are replaced with a single short wall-clock heartbeat:
- Refreshes each module based on real elapsed time since its last run, so it catches up any missed cadence the moment it next ticks.
- Kicks immediately on system resume (
PowerModeChanged) so a woken machine updates within seconds. - Runs each refresh off-thread with an in-flight guard, so a slow refresh can't stall or pile up.
No configuration changes required — just update.

v1.2.3
v1.2.3 — Reliable dock/undock rebuild
Fixed
- The wallpaper now rebuilds itself on dock and undock. Previously, undocking (or docking) could leave the wallpaper stuck on the old monitor layout — e.g. after undocking to a single laptop screen you'd see a cropped corner of the old multi-monitor render — until you restarted it.
Why it happened
The dynamic-rebuild logic detected display changes with a WinForms UI-thread timer. Windows can stop delivering those timer ticks after dock/undock and resume-from-sleep transitions, so the rebuild never fired even though the rest of the app (calendar refresh, rendering) kept working. v1.2.2 fixed how the monitor list is read, but the detector that consumes it was the piece that had gone silent.
The fix
Display-change detection now runs on a background thread-pool timer that polls the live monitor layout every second — independent of the UI message pump — and marshals the rebuild back onto the UI thread. A changed layout must be stable across two polls before rebuilding, so it won't thrash while Windows is still adding or removing monitors. Verified end-to-end by changing the display mode at runtime and watching the wallpaper auto-resize with no restart.
Self-contained Windows build (no .NET required). Install with the one-liner in the README.
v1.2.2
v1.2.2 — Reliable multi-monitor dock/undock
Fixed
- Wallpaper now expands onto monitors added by docking. Previously, docking a laptop to external displays (or otherwise changing the monitor set) could leave the wallpaper stuck at the old bounds until you restarted it.
Why it happened
WinForms' Screen.AllScreens is cached and only refreshes when Windows delivers a display-change notification — which a docking laptop (lid-close / display power transitions) doesn't always send to the app. Both the display-change handler and the periodic layout-reconcile fell back to the same stale monitor list, so no rebuild occurred.
The fix
The app now enumerates monitors live from the OS (EnumDisplayMonitors) every time it resolves the target displays. The reconcile poll detects a dock/undock within ~2 seconds and rebuilds the per-monitor wallpaper windows for the real layout — no restart needed. --primary / --monitor N behavior is unchanged.
Self-contained Windows build (no .NET required). Install with the one-liner in the README.
v1.2.1
v1.2.1 - Aurora app icon
Adds a custom aurora icon that matches the built-in wallpaper theme (green -> teal -> blue -> purple curtains with stars on a near-black rounded tile).
Added
- App, taskbar, and system-tray icon (multi-resolution 16-256 px).
- Embedded in the exe so the tray loads a crisp small frame at runtime.
- Reproducible generator at
tools/make_icon.py(Pillow + numpy).
Everything from v1.2.0 is included. Full details in PR #11.
v1.2.0
v1.2.0 - Management CLI consolidation
Folds the four management PowerShell helper scripts into the HtmlWallpaper.exe host itself, mirroring the existing module command. Fewer moving parts, one source of truth.
