V1.0.0 - Runtime Configuration
Before now, each user had to compile and run this locally, because all key-values were hard-coded into the BuildConfig.
No Longer! Welcoming in V1.0 now with 100% more runtime configuration.
This update adds the ability to configure your home-assistant URL, the home-assistant long-lived api token, and also what app opens when you press the netflix button on the shield remote, all from the app's accessibility configuration menu.
What a concept! sorry it took so long to implement. I had very little incentive because it has been working well for years, but I finally found the time with the help of Claude. This was a pretty good use-case for AI, and Claude has been helping me work through a backlog of work that I just haven't had the time to do. The code should still solid, I've reviewed it carefully and am using this version on my shield. Everything seems to be working well for me.
Let me know if you run into any issues and I'll see what I can do
What's Changed
- Dropped support for telnet control and standardized on only supporting Home Assistant
- Added the ability to dynamically configure the home-assistant URL, home-assistant long-lived token, and the app that launches when you press the Netflix button on the remote.
- A bug fix to requests not timing out properly
- Reduced APK size by removing almost all dependencies
- Upgraded gradle to latest version
- Updated target sdk and compile sdk to 36
- Updated network config to allow clear-text traffic to any domain (since using to control home assistant, means you don't have to have an https:// url for it to work. This was required since the configuration is now set at runtime, previously I would only allow-list the single configured IP or domain.
