PocketWiki for Android

The app sets up and fills an ESP32 PocketWiki device. It finds the board over Bluetooth, saves a 2.4 GHz network on it, shows what the board holds, and installs article packs from the catalogue.

Reading stays in the browser. The board serves its own pages over its own Wi-Fi network, and the app is only for setting the board up and loading it with articles.

Start here

What you need

  • A phone or tablet with Android 10 or newer.
  • A PocketWiki board. The firmware is in bilawalriaz/pocketwiki, and the landing page at https://educated.space/pocketwiki flashes a board from the browser.
  • Bluetooth on the phone, for the first connection.
  • A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, if you want the board to fetch packs on its own. 5 GHz networks do not work.

Get the app

Download the APK from Releases, then follow Install the app.

The three screens

The first run walks you through permissions, the board connection, and a Wi-Fi network. After that the app has three screens.

Screen What it shows
Library The packs on the board, the article count, and the free space. You can remove a pack here.
Packs The catalogue. Pick packs and install them in one pass.
Device The connection. Reconnect over Bluetooth, scan for 2.4 GHz networks, and save one for the board.

The app has no account, no analytics, and no server of its own. It talks to the board in front of you, and it reads the public pack catalogue from packs.educated.space when the phone has internet.
