- Turn the board on and keep it within a few metres. The Bluetooth radio is weak by design.
- Turn Bluetooth on, on the phone.
- Allow the nearby devices permission. Without it the app cannot scan. Check Device, then Open app settings.
- Close other apps that hold a Bluetooth connection to the board.
- Tap Reconnect over Bluetooth before trying a fresh search.
- Check the free space the board reports on the Library screen. A selection larger than the free space is refused before it starts.
- Keep the phone near the board. Bluetooth transfers take a while and are the first thing to fail at a distance.
- Try the install again on the board's own Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi is much faster than Bluetooth.
- The board must have power. A pack write during a power loss leaves the earlier pack in place, and the install has to start again.
Phones drop a Wi-Fi network that has no internet. When the app says it cannot reach the board, the phone has usually jumped back to your home network.
- Turn off mobile data while you install.
- Join the
PocketWikinetwork again from the phone's Wi-Fi settings. - Keep the board's own network. The board serves the reader there, and the app can send packs over Bluetooth when Wi-Fi is not available.
- The board and the phone both need a 2.4 GHz network. 5 GHz networks do not appear, and the board cannot join one.
- Allow the location permission on Android 11 and older. The system requires it for a Wi-Fi scan, even though the app does not use your location.
- Bring the phone closer to the router.
The board validates every pack before it installs it. A rejection means the bytes did not add up: an interrupted download, a file built for a different format version, or a file that is not a pack at all.
Install the pack again from the catalogue. If it fails twice, the catalogue entry is wrong; open an issue with the pack name.
- Android 10 or newer is required.
- Allow installs from your browser or file manager when Android asks.
- If Android says the package conflicts with an existing app, uninstall the old copy first. That happens when a build signed with a different key is already installed.
Reading is the browser's job, not the app's. The app sets the board up and
installs packs. Open http://pocketwiki/ or the address the app shows.
