Install
The app is not in Google Play. You install the APK file yourself, which Android allows, with one extra permission.
- Open Releases on the phone.
- Download the
pocketwiki-<version>.apkfile. If you see apocketwiki-<version>.apk.sha256file next to it, that is the checksum, not the app. - Open the downloaded file. Android asks whether this source may install apps. Allow it for the browser or file manager you used.
- Confirm the install.
If the file does not open, open the Files app, find the download, and tap it. Some browsers hide the downloaded file behind a notification instead.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Android version | 10 (API 29) or newer |
| Permissions | Nearby devices, and location on Android 11 and older |
| Network | Bluetooth for setup, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for pack downloads |
Android asks for the permissions when the app first needs them. On Android 12 and newer the app asks for nearby devices without location access. On Android 11 and older the system requires location for a Wi-Fi scan, so the app asks for it there. The app reads the network name and the signal strength, and it does not use your location.
Every release is signed with the same key. A newer APK installs straight over the old one and keeps your saved devices and settings, so you can repeat the steps above when a new version appears.
If Android refuses the install and says the package conflicts with an existing app, an older build signed with a different key is still installed. Uninstall that copy first, then install this one.
Uninstall it like any other app. Nothing on the board changes, and the board keeps working on its own.
