Bug fixes

  • Installs cleanly on the newest Python and fresh distros (e.g. Ubuntu 26.04 / Python 3.14). pipx install splicecraft was failing while trying to compile edlib, which publishes no wheel for Python 3.14 — or for ARM64 Linux — and, unmaintained since 2022, never will. SpliceCraft now uses its built-in Biopython aligner on those targets, so the install needs no compiler or dev headers. (The fast edlib aligner is still used automatically on x86-64 / macOS with Python 3.10–3.13 — identical results, just faster.)
  • Installs cleanly on Intel Macs. biopython is pinned to a release that still ships Intel-macOS wheels (its newest version dropped them), so Intel Macs no longer have to compile Biopython at install.

Hardening

  • Releases are now gated on dependency wheel coverage. A new pre-release check verifies that every required dependency installs from a prebuilt wheel on every supported platform and Python version (now through 3.14) — or is a documented compile-from-source case (primer design's primer3-py on ARM64, which needs a one-time build-essential / Xcode CLT) — so a dependency quietly dropping wheels for a new Python or platform can't ship an un-installable release again.
