Sequence alignment is now fast on every platform — no edlib needed. SpliceCraft has a new built-in pure-Python aligner that replaces the old Biopython fallback wherever the optional edlib turbo has no prebuilt wheel (ARM64 Linux, Python 3.14+, native Windows, and any fresh install without it). A real ~18 kb Plasmidsaurus read at ~99% identity now aligns in ~0.7 s instead of ~8.6 s (~12× faster), with identical results — so bulk sequencing QC is quick everywhere, not just where edlib happens to ship a wheel. edlib is still used automatically as a turbo where its wheel exists (x86-64 / macOS on Python 3.10–3.13) and is now purely optional: nothing slows to a crawl, and nothing breaks, if it's absent.
