Failure sending mail

Hi,

today i updated to Version 1.18. Now i have the problem, that i receive no email.

My email address is entered: adminSettings__admins=myemail@email.com (global.override.env)

Mail send failed.
System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Failure sending mail. ---> System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/home/bitwarden/.dotnet/corefx/cryptography/x509stores/ca' is denied. ---> System.IO.IOException: Permission denied

I have not upgraded yet (but was currently using beta), but have a feeling when the new docker containers no longer run as root the userid changed and no longer allows permission to the global.override.env file.

My files currently show user and group 999:
-rw------- 1 999 999 1592 Mar 30 10:53 global.override.env
-rw------- 1 999 999 77 Mar 28 21:35 mssql.override.env

and that user doesn't exist in my system so I believe thats the docker container user.
you might want to try chown 999:999 global.override.env to see if the ownership helps correct the issue. If it does help, chown recursively the entire bwdata folder might help going forward.

I also logged into the docker container and checked /etc/group and /etc/passwd and found:

/etc/passwd
bitwarden:x:999:999::/home/bitwarden:
/etc/group
bitwarden:x:999:

So a chown -r 999:999 bwdata should probably correct the ownership issue encountered on all the files within. You may want to make a copy of the bwdata directory if you want some sort of restore point.

I executed chown -R 999:999 bwdata
Still the same error.

Are you only having mail errors from the Admin container? What about Api?

Can you bash into the Admin and/or Api containers and see who owns /home/bitwarden/.dotnet/corefx/cryptography/x509stores/ca?

I'm connected as root to the API, but i cannot find the path, because /home is empty.

Try creating a home directory for user bitwarden and see if that changes anything.

I just updated to 1.18 and tested the admin portal and received an email, and none of my home folders exist.

Admin or api I suppose. I haven’t got the error either so I’m not sure what is causing it. That path is managed by .NET core framework under some condition, not our code.

We don’t create the home for for the user, but it sounds like we might need to.
