I started goes2go in grad school in 2018 to make it easier to get GOES data. I'm surprised how many have used it and my other project Herbie.

I haven't worked with GOES data directly for several years, but still use this package on occasion. It's even fun to maintain an open source project and I continue to learn from being a part of the community. I'm very grateful for the many contributers.

Much has happened in the last several years regarding data access and tooling. New tools like a virtual zarr of the goes data is awesome https://www.earthmover.io/blog/virtual-zarr. I imagine tools like this and others are the cause for the declining popularity of goes2go.

I'll keep merging PRs when submitted, but I realize there are new tools out there to get your goes data. I do hope that this package inspires some of the development of new tools and am always glad when this package has helped people in their work. Even in a world of AI coding, I continue to belive data access tools should have human-friendly APIs.
