History / node flatten

  • Explode pins a Kind, cluster sockets carry an Order, and a seam is green Theo's v0.3.52 list, twenty-one pages. Explode gains the Kind pulldown and its ten values, an Outputs section split between Auto and pinned, and a section on why you would pin it: a cluster is edited with its inputs empty, so on Auto there are no sockets to wire. Separate XY is deprecated in favor of Explode with Kind set to Point, and documents are converted as they load. The six per-kind banners read Deprecated rather than retired. Cluster Input and Cluster Output carry Order. Cluster Output also gains In, which was missing from the page entirely, and its Outputs now say the node has none on the canvas. clusters.md replaces "drag one up or down to reorder" with the order being a number, not a position, and adds the paragraph on an untouched socket reading its real value rather than zero. Weld Seams gains Across Groups, a boolean on by default, and its alt text no longer calls the seam dashed. Flatten loses the claim that a tiled pattern needs a Flatten in front of Weld Seams, which Across Groups made untrue; the page now says what Flatten is for in general and does not mention Weld Seams at all. Sort gains key 5 Name and a paragraph for each of the six keys, written against sortKey and compareNames rather than from prose. Data Box describes nesting and names, which of the two kinds of name survives a flatten, and what the summary counts. Wallpaper Groups gains the fourth numbered step, which hands the cluster its cell vectors and had never been one, plus the cell-vector figure, the straight edge on a finite block, and cm and cmm counting in twos. Organizing gains a Buses section between Relays and Tidy Layout, covering both commands and why they are a pair, and Tidy Layout gains a paragraph on routing the lanes deliberately. Credits gains an "Ideas, not code" section with two debts that are not libraries. C.a.R., or Zirkel und Lineal, by René Grothmann at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, maintained since 1996: the live-construction model this program starts from, credited for the conventions and the direction. Orbi, by the Grasshopper Collective at Nuremberg Tech, for the named bus that a run of Relays carries. Upright becomes Deskew on three pages, matching the app's own label. Four diagrams rebuilt. The weld seam is solid seam green, not dashed accent blue, and the two cluster cards show the sockets the nodes actually have. Also removes .fuse_hidden0000002c00000001, a bridge artifact committed by mistake in 89f4ea9 on 2026-08-25.

  • Flatten, and Explode takes a point apart Flatten gets its page. It drops the list structure a Collect built and leaves the geometry untouched. Levels says how many wraps to peel: -1 is the default and takes every level however deeply they nested, 0 takes none, 1 takes the outermost. The diagram is one row per value in that order, with the 0 row doubling as the input since 0 changes nothing. Two things the page says because the node's own source says them, and neither was obvious from the outside. It peels the LIST, not the membership: a copy's own group is what makes it one region rather than part of a merged blob, and Mirror, Rotate and Array already stamp every copy they make as its own, so flattening never welds anything together. And the reason it exists is the weld. Weld Seams keys every seam by its endpoints and by which part of the list it sits in, which stops a real boundary between separate parts being erased, but it also means a tiling cluster whose orbit is a Collect arrives already divided. A pgg cluster hands over its two glide cosets as two parts, so seams that ought to cancel sit on opposite sides of that guard. Put a Flatten in front of the weld and the same tolerance dissolves them. Explode on a point now hands back X and Y as numbers rather than passing the point through, so Separate XY is redundant and is retired: banner on, out of the sidebar and the Data index, page kept because the Explode page links to it. That is how the six retired per-type Explode nodes are handled, and unlike Split (Manual) a deletion would have broken live links. All eleven Explode kind cards are reworked. Every one had shown the same grey Geometry input, so nothing on a card said which kind it was about; the kind lived only in the heading above it. Inputs are now named by kind and typed where the type is certain, which is the open shapes; circle, ellipse and shape stay grey because either a curve or a region can arrive. Title bars take the single output type where there is one and stay neutral where the outputs are mixed. Lists and collections drops the claim that nesting goes one level deep, and points at Flatten as the way to take nesting off.
