Release numbering: own vMAJOR.MINOR.PATCH line starting at v6.0.1, independent of upstream GNU Midnight Commander versions. MINOR is bumped for feature releases, PATCH for fix-only releases. Each release page notes the upstream version the fork is based on.

Notes are generated with maint/release_notes.sh, grouped by area (mcedit, mcview, Panel, VFS, Core, Plugins) and by type (Features, Fixes). Refactorings, CI and build changes go to the Internal section.
