The refusal comes from prepareDepthSampling in Graphics/src/DepthSurface.cpp. A temporary print of the DepthTarget there gives:

• format VK_FORMAT_D32_SFLOAT_S8_UINT (130), 2 samples, 2560x1440;
• a separate stencil plane (stencilAddress set), HTILE depth-only (htileStencil 0, htileDepthOnly 1), pipe-aligned, pipeBankXor 0, Z_X swizzle, one slice, clear depth 0;
• the depth plane (0x1e00000 bytes), the stencil plane (0x780000) and the HTILE (0x48000) do not overlap, and all three are accessible and GuestMemory::Watched on Windows;
• every byte of the stencil plane equals the target's clear stencil (0) at that point.

A local experiment that let only this case through (D32S8 with a depth-only HTILE and a stencil plane whose bytes all equal the clear stencil) gets one step further and then stops in CheckResource when the title samples the depth:

The sampled texture has no metadata (dccAddress 0, not pipe-aligned) while the target has its HTILE; pipeBankXor (0) and iterate256 (0) match. So the title needs both a D32S8 target with a separate, uncompressed stencil plane and a sample of that depth through a descriptor without HTILE. The experiment was not kept.

Current blocker

native multisample stencil or depth format import is not implemented, then native multisample depth sampled metadata or XOR mismatch. #6300 imports D32S8 targets only with HTILE stencil and refuses a depth-only HTILE, so it does not cover this target.

How it was run

The dump's eboot.bin and the .prx files of sce_module, Media/Modules and Media/Plugins were unwrapped with tools/unwrap_self.py. tools/import_audit.py reports 0 absent imports and 40 throwing stubs, among them sceAjmBatchStart, sceAjmInstanceCreate, sceAjmBatchJobInitialize and sceAjmBatchJobSetGaplessDecode; none is reached before the abort. No APS5_* variables were set apart from APS5_LOG_TIMESTAMPS, APS5_PROFILE_DRAW, APS5_TRACE_SUMMARY_EVERY and APS5_TRACE_DIR.
