How can I display the last console message onscreen?

I was looking through the CVARs but didn't seem to find a way to do this.... Just wanted to print the last message in-game (ideally separate to the in-game messages)

I went through the console code and I don't think there's a way to do exactly that right now. None of the CVARs mirror the console's output onto the screen, and the only on-screen text path is the regular player-message line at the top (controlled by messages).

The closest things that exist:

• print "your text": prints a player message on screen. Under the hood it's the same HU_PlayerMessage() the game uses for "Picked up a shotgun" etc., so it shows in the normal message line, not a separate one.
• messages on: makes sure player messages are shown at all.
• groupmessages: controls whether repeated identical messages get grouped, if you're seeing them collapse.

So a separate "last console line" display (independent of the in-game messages) would need a new CVAR. It's worth opening an issue or feature request for it, since Brad tends to be pretty responsive to small QoL ideas like that.

Just wanted to add an update - A subsequent commit provided a initial solution for my use case:
Extend print CCMD to accept CVAR as parameter to print its value as player message

A few more tweaks to that would resolve the issue
