Eve's Apple Tree Thinking System — v0.4.0
think how to think
First public release. Grows your notes into a 3D "tree of light" you can fly around — a thinking tool, not a filing cabinet.
Features
- 🌳 3D tree of light — a locked warm-white observatory-style scene built on three.js (bundled, runs fully offline, no network calls).
- 🌲 Forest — every top-level folder in your vault is its own independent tree (own fields, own trunk, own place in the scene). Zoom out and each tree crossfades into a translucent green silhouette; several folders read as a forest. A Focus tree selector flies you to any one tree or back to the whole forest.
- 🔭 Zoom-driven labels (LOD) — zoomed out is a clean constellation of dots; zoom in for titles, further for descriptions.
- 🌙 Dark mode — follows Obsidian's light/dark theme automatically; dots become glowing diamonds on black. A manual 🌙/☀️ override in the panel sticks — it's no longer clobbered by theme changes or by Rebuild.
- ✨ Every dot glows — a soft halo tinted to each dot's own colour, brightest on ah-has and outputs, tuned separately for light and dark themes. A Light shine slider takes it from subtle to strong live; dark mode is where it shows best.
- 👁 Stakeholder views + chair lens — a note can carry a
## Stakeholder viewssection (different "chairs" and their take); picking a chair dims every dot with no view from it, so you can sweep the tree through one perspective at a time. - 🌉 Cross-tree bridges — two trees connect only through a bridge note that explains the link, never an automatic cross-tree line.
- 🧲 Link-aware clustering — dots in the same field that link to each other pull together into clusters; unrelated dots sit apart (toggle in settings, skipped automatically above 500 notes per tree to keep things responsive).
- 🌸 / 🍎 Flower and apple markers — locate breakthroughs and outputs at a glance; a bloomed/fruited tree shows them on its zoom-out silhouette too.
- 🖱️ Click a dot for its card — title, description, field, any stakeholder views, and its links to and from other notes, with an Open note ↗ button that opens the note in a new tab. Bridge nodes open the same way and show their explanation.
- ✋ Hand-placeable dots — drag any leaf, ah-ha, or output to arrange it; the position saves automatically and survives a rebuild or an app restart. Each dot stays inside its own field wedge, so the layout can't misrepresent a note's field; changing the note's
fieldproperty is how you move a dot between fields. Root and trunk stay fixed, and ⌾ Reset dot layout returns everything to auto-layout. - 🎛️ Panel upgrades — the control panel minimizes to a small pill; a Text size slider scales every label live; a Zoom-out icon selector picks the far-zoom silhouette shape (Round, Conifer, or Apple).
- Respects
prefers-reduced-motion(manual auto-spin is exempt by design). Desktop-only — it's a real WebGL scene.
Install
Community Plugins browse (pending review): Settings → Community plugins → Browse → search "Eve Apple Tree Thinking System" → Install → Enable. This path isn't live yet while the listing goes through review.
Manual install (works now): download main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css from this release's assets, and copy them into <your-vault>/.obsidian/plugins/eve-apple-tree/. Then enable it under Settings → Community plugins.
Open the tree from the sprout ribbon icon or the command palette → "Open the tree of light."
Known limits
- No live refresh yet. Add or edit notes, then hit Rebuild in the panel. Watching the vault automatically is on the roadmap.
- Large vaults are guarded, not fully optimized. Clustering is skipped above 500 notes in a tree; whole-vault ingest gives a friendly notice above ~1500 notes suggesting "Only show notes with tree frontmatter."
- Desktop only — no mobile version; the renderer needs real WebGL.
- Growth axes are fixed —
fieldandtimeare the only two coordinates for now; per-vault custom palettes are on the roadmap.
