Build 302: 4 September 2026

Build 302 is on TestFlight now. It's a big one: builds 297 to 301 went to internal testing only, so this is the first build you can install since 296, and it carries the lot. The older builds are expired now, so 302 is the one to take.

Fanfic Updates, rebuilt

The whole feature now sits on one page: a hero strip at the top, tiles for whatever needs you, and the update inbox as the feed instead of the old rail and accordion.

You can import your AO3 Marked for Later list in the app. Fics you don't own yet get their own list with their Ex Libris covers and a plain download arrow that turns into a progress ring. There are Up to date and Complete shelves, and you choose how each one sorts.

Fic covers and chapter counts follow the update

When a fic updates, its Ex Libris cover is redrawn, so the chapter count on the cover matches the new file instead of staying at whatever it was when you imported it. The chapter facts come from the new EPUB itself, so the Chapters field stops going stale.

CrossPoint keeps your fics current

If you move a fic into a folder on your reader, a read folder say, Apogee now finds it when it checks for stale copies. The updated fic goes back to your default folder with your furthest place kept.

A send that wedges on the reader's hotspot says so instead of sitting at nothing, and a book whose size your server reports differently from the file it serves stops re-flagging as stale forever.

CarPlay

The chapter list sits in the button row next to speed and bookmark, and it opens at the chapter you're in with the earlier ones in a section below. Now Playing shows the chapter title with the book name under it. There's a Browse tab for your audiobook library, and when your ebook is ahead of the narration a Jump Ahead button offers to catch it up. The current-chapter marker uses the system's indicator and I've only seen it work in the simulator, so I don't know yet whether it draws on a real head unit. Thanks @cordelljones1996 for #113.

The player

The sleep timer can stop after 2, 3 or 5 chapters, not only the current one. Thanks @seannymurrs for #116. One honest limit in this first cut: on books split into one file per chapter, only "End of chapter" shows for now, because stopping across a file boundary needs more plumbing.

The chapter name also stops jumping to a far-off number on long books, and chapter numbers aren't cut off in the selector or on Now Playing any more.

Reading

On iOS 27 the reader could end up clipped top and bottom. My best guess is it was trusting a bad screen measurement that iOS hands out while the app is waking up, so it ignores those now and corrects itself when the app comes back. I'm not certain that's the whole story, so if you've seen this, say whether 302 helps. Thanks @jawr for #117.

In scrolled mode the last line of a chapter clears the bottom fade, so it's fully readable at the end of your scroll. The Margins setting now explains that it controls the space above and below the text in scrolled mode, which wasn't written down anywhere before. Crossing into the next chapter gives a small haptic tick when the pull is far enough, and a firmer one when the chapter lands. Thanks @seannymurrs for #119.

Paragraph spacing has a "None" setting at last, so a book that indents without blank lines reads the way it was set. And "Save to server" tells you whether it actually saved, instead of looking the same whether it worked or not.

Your library

Up Next carries on into a book you haven't downloaded. Tapping it used to do nothing. Now it downloads the book, shows the progress, and opens the reader as soon as it's ready. If the download can't get through you get an honest message with a retry. Thanks @Peaceout32 for #118.

A library move or merge on your server should propagate now: the media type, the file list, and PDFs that wouldn't open all follow it. Entries for books the server deleted in a move should clean themselves up instead of lingering. Thanks @DerHerzog7 for #115.

Big libraries

A large comic library opens without the memory spike that could kill the app on a 4 GB phone, and Home loads a page at a time rather than all at once. A dual-format book is listed under every section its files serve, so a book that's both an ebook and a comic stops going missing from Books.

If it crashes

The next launch now offers to file a report that carries the crash and the last few decisions the app made before it. One report should be enough to explain the fault, instead of costing you another round of questions.

Smaller fixes

• Collection titles in Browse line up with each other instead of starting at a different place on every row.
• Read & Listen works on regional locales like Austrian German.
• Downloads queue from what your server actually says rather than a stale cached row, so a format that used to download nothing now works.
• The Marked for Later list stops showing every fic three times.

What I'd like you to look at

@cordelljones1996, give CarPlay a run when you can and tell me whether it works, especially whether the current-chapter marker shows on your head unit. I could only test it in the simulator.

@jawr, I'm not sure the change I made is the cause in your case, so tell me whether that book still does it.

If you keep fics in folders on your CrossPoint, please update one and check that the offer appears and the fic stays in its folder with your place kept.
