How to upgrade to the latest Version of Big Royal Mail

IMPORTANT: Version 3.7.0 onwards has been designed to work with Zen Cart V1.5.8 upwards. If you are using a version of Zen Cart before this, it will not function correctly. However, you can still use the mmmYYYYUpdate.sql files to update your rates.

Choose your current version

NB. If you are using Zen Cart Version 1.3.8 and you are required to run Install3.2.sql, you will need to use the script in 1.3.8_scripts and not the one in the top level.

From Version 3.7 to 3.9.0

  1. If you are using zen cart 1.5.7 or below BigRoyalMail may still work if you do not remove the current language files.

  2. If you are using zen cart 1.5.8 or above and have not deleted the old language files see From Version 3.5.0 to 3.6 any below.- Copy the files from BigRoyalMail_V3.9.1/includes/- and BigRoyalMail_V3.9.1/images/- onto your server into: YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/includes/

    YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/images/

    • To apply the latest rates either
      1. Run apr2025Update.sql
        1. Backup your database before running update.
        2. Login to your zen cart admin
        3. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
        4. Copy the contents of apr2025Update.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load apr2025Update.sql into zen cart.
        5. Press send button to execute script
      2. OR Uninstall and reinstall all the Royal mail shipping modules you are using. Note: this will remove all handling fees and override changes to country codes you may have made. So please note any changes you have made before you begin.
        1. Login to your zen cart admin
        2. Use Admin > Modules > Shipping
        3. For each of the modules installed. Green dot in sort order: installed and in use. Yellow dot in sort order: Installed not in use.
        4. Highlight by clicking the module line.
        5. Click Remove Module
        6. Click Remove Module on the confirmation message
        7. Click Install Module NB. If the dot after status was Yellow you do not need to reinstall as you were not using it so skip remaining steps for that module.
        8. Modify Enable this shipping option to True to turn the module on
        9. If you do not want to display invalid shipping options Modify Hide Invalid Shipping to True
        10. Check the Handling fee/s and modify if necessary
        11. Click Update
    • If you use printed paper rates After You have installed all the modules you need. Run PrintedPapers.sql
      1. Backup your database before running update.
      2. Login to your zen cart admin
      3. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
      4. Copy the contents of PrintedPapers.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load PrintedPapers.sql into zen cart.
      5. Press send button to execute script

From Version 3.5.0 to 3.6 any

  1. If you are using zen cart 1.5.7 or below BigRoyalMail may still work if you do not remove the current language files

  2. If you are using zen cart 1.5.8 or above delete all the BigRoyalMail language files from YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping

  3. If you have modified and of the files language files and saved them to your template these will need changing to 'lang.' files and modifying to the zen cart 1.5.8 standard See Zen Cart documentation

  4. Copy the files from BigRoyalMail_V3.9.1/includes/- and BigRoyalMail_V3.9.1/images/- onto your server into: YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/includes/

    YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/images/

  5. Uninstall and reinstall all the Royal mail shipping modules you are using. Note: this will remove all handling fees and override changes to country codes you may have made. So please note any changes you have made before you begin.

    1. Login to your zen cart admin

  3. If you have modified and of the files language files and saved them to your template these will need changing to 'lang.' files and modifying to the zen cart 1.5.8 standard See Zen Cart documentation

  4. Remove EU modules.

    1. Delete the following files
      • rmamteuletter.php
      • rmamteulargeletter.php
      • rmamteuparcel.phpfrom YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/includes/modules/shipping and YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/includes/languages/english/modules/shipping

  5. Remove all the configuration values

    Note: This will remove the configuration values from all the Big Royal mail methods and set them to uninstalled.

    If you have made any changes to country codes or added any handling fees they will be removed so please make a note of them so you can reinput them when you have reinstalled the modules you require.

    1. Make a note of all the Royal Mail shipping modules you are using

      1. Login to your zen cart admin
      2. Use Admin > Modules > Shipping
      3. For each of the modules installed. Green dot in sort order: installed and in use. Yellow dot in sort order: Installed not in use.

    2. Run RemoveAll.sql to remove the values from the configuration tables.

      Note: This will remove the configuration values from all the Big Royal mail methods and set them to uninstalled.

      If you have made any changes to country codes or added any handling fees they will be removed so please make a note of them so you can reinput them when you have reinstalled the modules you require.

      1. Backup your database before running update.
      2. Login to your zen cart admin
      3. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
      4. Copy the contents of RemoveAll.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load RemoveAll.sql into zen cart.
      5. Press send button to execute script

  6. Copy the files from BigRoyalMail_V3.9.1/includes/- and BigRoyalMail_V3.9.1/images/- onto your server into: YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/includes/

    YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/images/

  7. Reinstall all the Royal mail shipping modules you require.

    1. Login to your zen cart admin
    2. Use Admin > Modules > Shipping
    3. Highlight by clicking the module line.
    4. Click Install Module
    5. Modify Enable this shipping option to True to turn the module on
    6. If you do not want to display invalid shipping options Modify Hide Invalid Shipping to True
    7. Check the country codes and Handling fee()s) and modify if necessary
    8. Click Update

  8. If you use printed paper rates After You have installed all the modules you need. Run PrintedPapers.sql

    1. Login to your zen cart admin
    2. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
    3. Copy the contents of PrintedPapers.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load PrintedPapers.sql into zen cart.
    4. Press send button to execute script

From Version 3.2.0

  1. If you are using zen cart 1.5.7 or below BigRoyalMail may still work if you do not remove the current language files

  5. Remove all the configuration values

    Note: This will remove the configuration values from all the Big Royal mail methods and set them to uninstalled.

    If you have made any changes to country codes or added any handling fees they will be removed so please make a note of them so you can reinput them when you have reinstalled the modules you require.

    1. Make a note of all the Royal Mail shipping modules you are using

      1. Login to your zen cart admin
      2. Use Admin > Modules > Shipping
      3. For each of the modules installed. Green dot in sort order: installed and in use. Yellow dot in sort order: Installed not in use.

    2. Run RemoveAll.sql to remove the values from the configuration tables.

      Note: This will remove the configuration values from all the Big Royal mail methods and set them to uninstalled.

      If you have made any changes to country codes or added any handling fees they will be removed so please make a note of them so you can reinput them when you have reinstalled the modules you require.

      1. Backup your database before running update.
      2. Login to your zen cart admin
      3. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
      4. Copy the contents of RemoveAll.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load RemoveAll.sql into zen cart.
      5. Press send button to execute script

  6. Copy the files from BigRoyalMail_V3.9.1/includes/- and BigRoyalMail_V3.9.1/images/- onto your server into: YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/includes/

    YOUR_SHOPPING_CART_DIRECTORY/images/

  7. Reinstall all the Royal mail shipping modules you require.

    1. Login to your zen cart admin
    2. Use Admin > Modules > Shipping
    3. Highlight by clicking the module line.
    4. Click Install Module
    5. Modify Enable this shipping option to True to turn the module on
    6. If you do not want to display invalid shipping options Modify Hide Invalid Shipping to True
    7. Check the Country codes and Handling fee(s) and modify if necessary
    8. Click Update

  8. If you use printed paper rates Run PrintedPapers.sql

    1. Login to your zen cart admin
    2. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
    3. Copy the contents of PrintedPapers.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load PrintedPapers.sql into zen cart.
    4. Press send button to execute script

  9. Run Install3.2.sql to add the Attributes.

    1. Login to your zen cart admin
    2. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
    3. Copy the contents of Install3.2.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load Install3.2.sql into zen cart.
    4. Press send button to execute scriptNB. If you are running zen cart 1.5.7 this will generate 2 'Query incomplete: missing closing semicolon.' error messages before the final 'Success: 36 statement(s) processed.' message. These errors are because multiline SQL statements are being incorrectly flagged as errors. This has been fixed in 1.5.7a and above.

From Version 3.0.0 or 3.0.0a

  1. If you are using zen cart 1.5.7 or below BigRoyalMail may still work if you do not remove the current language files

    6. If you do not want to display invalid shipping options Modify Hide Invalid Shipping to True
    7. Check the Country codes and Handling fee(s) and modify if necessary
    8. Click Update

  8. If you use printed paper rates Run PrintedPapers.sql

    1. Login to your zen cart admin
    2. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
    3. Copy the contents of PrintedPapers.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load PrintedPapers.sql into zen cart.
    4. Press send button to execute script

  9. Run Install3.2.sql to add the Attributes.

    1. Login to your zen cart admin
    2. Use Tools > Install SQL Patches
    3. Copy the contents of Install3.2.sql and paste into the text window or Use the Browse button to load Install3.2.sql into zen cart.
    4. Press send button to execute scriptNB. If you are running zen cart 1.5.7 this will generate 2 'Query incomplete: missing closing semicolon.' error messages before the final 'Success: 36 statement(s) processed.' message. These errors are because multiline SQL statements are being incorrectly flagged as errors. This has been fixed in 1.5.7a and above.
