Release list
1.2.0
Dictionary Notes 1.2.0
Definitions now support Spanish, defined in Spanish or explained in English, chosen for each lookup.
New
- Español: look up a Spanish word and get definitions written in Spanish from Wikcionario (the Spanish Wiktionary), with examples, synonyms, antonyms, pronunciation, and origin.
- Spanish → English: look up a Spanish word and get it explained in English, from Free Dictionary API or Wiktionary.
- Choose English, Español, or Spanish → English with the buttons at the top of the definitions search window. Dictionary Notes remembers your last choice.
- Spanish words get their own folder (default
Definitions/Español), so Spanish and English notes with the same spelling, such as sin, don't collide. Definitions written in Spanish use a new built-in Spanish template. - Missing accents are forgiven: if
cancionisn't found, you're offered canción. - Looking up a form of a word, such as corrí or ran, offers the base word (correr, run). You can keep the form.
- New template variable
{{language}}.
Fixed
- Source links from Free Dictionary API for phrases, such as ice cream, now work, and non-English words link to their language's section on Wiktionary.
- In properties, a single word with accents, such as café, is no longer put in quotes.
Your settings, templates, and hotkeys carry over, and the search window starts on English, which works as before. To hide the new buttons, turn off Spanish definitions → Spanish in the search window. Spanish definitions use Wikcionario (es.wiktionary.org) and need no account; see Network use and privacy and Upgrading from 1.1.
Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or later.
1.1.0
Dictionary Notes 1.1.0
Dictionary Notes now builds a dictionary of definitions, idioms, and quotes.

- Idioms: run Create new idiom note or choose Idiom from the ribbon menu. Search is forgiving ("spill beans" finds "spill the beans"). Notes include the meaning, examples, and origin, from Wiktionary.
- Quotes: run Create new quote note or choose Quote from the ribbon menu. Search Wikiquote by keyword, author, or topic. Notes include the author, work, and year when Wikiquote gives them.

- Each type has its own folder (
Idioms,Quotes), template, and settings section.
