A Framework for Flight

Unlike my other GAP mods, GAPFAS does not come preconfigured with a list of sites to fly to. It is a framework for the player to create their own worlds of sites using any Home World of their choice and Ketbal Konstructs to make the bases.

See the section Groups.cfg Define your world for details about creating the definitions to fly missions to your world's bases.

Missions

KSP Air Service Science

Science missions come in two flavours

  1. Milestone missions designed to progress through the various stages of atmospheric flight until ultimately reaching orbit using an SSTO Aircraft
  2. Science collection from your planet while flying either in low atmosphere, or high in the stratosphere. There is also a mission to collect sceince from rare locations which may require either a water landing or a ground landing of your aircraft

KSP Air Service Transport

There are three types of Transport missions

  1. Flying a group of kerbals from the KSC to a single destination base
  2. Flying a group of kerbals from the KSC to a destination base with a continuing flight to a second base
  3. Flying from the KSC to another base to pick up a kerbal and continue to a second base to drop the kerbal off.

For mission types 1 & 2 there is a progression from small sized flights to larger sized flights with more passengers

KSP Air Service Cargo

There are 2 types of Cargo missions

  1. Flights to another base to "pick up" a shipment of cargo and deliver it to a second base.
  2. Deliver relief supplies to a random location on the Home World dropped by parachute

For mission type 1 there is a progression of minimum aircraft sizes that are required to "move" the cargo loads

KSP Air Service Rescue

With all these aircraft flying about there are bound to be some issues and pilots will need to be rescued. Aircraft capable of land and water landings and possibly with VTOL abilities will be required

  1. Rescue missions of downed pilots near a random base on either on the ground or in the water
  2. A Missing Aircraft is spawned at a random location on the Home World. An aircraft must be sent to rescue the pilot and optionally recover the flight data recorder from the missing aircraft's cockpit inventory. EVA Construction is required to attach the part to your rescue aircraft.
