Hey guys, so here's what I got going on. This server has no other installations of cakephp. This is a fresh install.

Installed cakephp,
Followed the installation in the readme.
I've even checked that the $prefix in core.php is uniqu by changing it.

When I browse to the app I get this:

@ryan-durbin what version of PHP do you have installed? CakePHP?

Odd. That sort of issue points to anonymous functions not being available. Are you sure you're using 5.4? What OS are you on, perhaps your webserver has PHP 5.2 enabled instead?

Yeah it sounds like you have php5.2. Try calling phpinfo() from inside your app/Config/bootstrap.php.

Php info says its 5.4.20. I'm on centos 6.4 using cpanel.

I don't know then. Debug Kit works fine for me in php5.4

@rymn thats from phpinfo() from a browser context? This is pretty odd, as it should work, and I can't replicate unless I downgrade to 5.2

I've downgraded to versions 2.2.1 and 2.2.0 and still getting:

There has to be something wrong with compatibility somewhere.. I know this is supported by CakePHP, but I just can't get it to work.. btw there are 270 other accounts on this server and I haven't had anyone complain of anything being broken. Any ideas what could be wrong? I've restarted server.

If you open up that file and read those lines, then you'll see it's referencing $before(), which is an anonymous function. The error you get is Fatal error: Function name must be a string, which indicates that your system does not support anonymous functions. This is a new feature in PHP 5.3.

The DebugKit plugin requires PHP 5.3+, so if you are running a lower version, things will break. As a simple test, you can define an anonymous function in a file and attempt to call it in a web context:

$some_function = function () {
    return true;
};
$some_function();

If that works, then sure, there might be an issue in the DebugKit, but I doubt it. I do believe you are running an incorrect version in the web context, hence this issue.

Can you provide a screenshot of your phpinfo() call?

@rymn No I do, its because something is not right on your server. While you may have PHP5.4 installed, that is not what is running inside your webserver, from everything that I can tell.

Without a way to reproduce the issue, there is nothing we can do to solve it. Since the code works fine for me on similar versions of PHP, the issue is most likely being caused by server configuration on the server that only you has access to.

rymn: Can you run a phpinfo from your bootstrap.php and die; immediately
afterward? Perhaps that php is a different version?
