Workstation Setup

Now that you're ready to get hacking, you need all the software set up on your machine. A lot of things are up to personal preference, but here are the basic things you'll need:

1. Text editor: This is where you'll be typing in code. It's all up to personal preference, unless you're using nodepad. Just don't. Here are the big ones:

• Visual Studio Code (VS Code): Awesome package/mods support, very good overall
• Sublime: Great package/mods support, very good overall
• Atom: Great package/mods support, very good overall
• Vim: For hackers

2. Git client: Git is a version control system (VCS) that tracks your code. This will be how we manage a massive project between multiple people. If you're on mac, I think git should already be installed (try typing in git in your terminal). You can access git through your terminal or you can install a GUI.

• Install a GUI if you want

3. Node.js: Node.js is a powerful JS server-side framework, but it also provides tons of useful JS dev tools, one of which is npx, a package manager. The JS dev community is awesome and there are tons of open source packages and tools we can easily implement in our project. In fact, there are so many packages it's actually a meme.

To verify that node.js has been installed correctly, type in the following command in your terminal and you should see some numbers, this is the version number:

npm -v

And now you're good to go!
