Hi all,

I'm David Banas. And I'm the original creator, as well as the current Benevolent Dictator for Life (BDFL), of the PyBERT open source Python project.

I've created this discussion in order to solicit questions/comments/suggestions/concerns/etc. regarding the upcoming major release of PyBERT: v10.0.0. My goal is to complete this release by Summer's end.

The PyBERT v10.0.0 release is targeted, primarily, at the VITA 68 effort and will include the following major improvements:

1. Optionally, run COM at the end of a normal PyBERT simulation run.
2. Add support for s8p and s12p Touchstone channel models.
3. Add support for populating the complete AMI_Init() impulse response matrix, including cross-talk aggressors.
4. Add support for multi-element channel modeling.
   • That is, allow the user to specify several Touchstone files (package, connector, board, etc.) and form the complete composite channel model, via concatenation.

Note: A fifth feature, originally included in the VITA 68.3 project, has been removed from the list because it doesn't really work, given the existing PyBERT GUI layout. That feature would have allowed sweeping over several channel descriptions, single or multiple file.
Instead, we will be providing an example of how to achieve the same functionality, using the Jupyter Notebook platform, a very flexible browser-based method of combining:

• Python code,
• narrative, and
• plots/figures/drawings/etc.

I invite the interested among you to grab the latest push to the master branch of the PyBERT Github repo. and take it for a test drive.
