Vite - thoughts about modernizing the js build tooling vs CRA/CRACO?

[alexanderankin]

trying to figure out if this is right for this project (in opinion for anyone maintaining)

@alexanderankin what's your proposal and why?

[alexanderankin]

Usually I use vite in projects - I just cloned the repo and it took 1.5 mins to build the frontend, so then I tried to research if CRA supports debug builds and it does not (it supports only dev server), so i figured this might be something worth contributing.

i think it is generally uncontroversial that vite is much better than CRA - the question is this: is there any reason to upgrade from CRA on this project.
